we have homeless and hungry here, yet folks like this prefer to help criminals who have do right to be here.

What drives illegal immigration? One of many things is that right now the US pays a family on welfare more (an average of 50,000 tax free dollar) than an average working family makes (35,000 taxable dollars). I doubt if many are coming for the minimum wage jobs as publicized.
Add to this, those in power give them "amnesty" to keep them as voting block and decision makers in elections.
We do need to find a way to manage immigration into our country -- an Ellis Island type of program which can handle large amounts of legal immigrants in a timely and professional way.
I do not believe that the "run across the border and give them amnesty as well as free services" or "cross the border and have a baby" or "let them come and stay for political purposes" are the best immigration "policy." But both parties in Washington are hopelessly yellow bellied and spineless when it comes to doing anything constructive, sane, and in keeping with the Constitution when it comes to immigration. They are worse than the "Do Nothings." They are the "Can't Be Doners."

that system would need to be able to check all things in the background of new comers no rubber stamping as we have now. if they cannot fully check a persons life out before coming here then don't let that person in

Great article! I just wish the US government could use that $18 billion to help other North Americans with their economies: more jobs in Mexico, more tourism jobs in Nicaragua, etc. The underlying cause needs resolved not just using temporary stop-gap fixes.
