U.S. official sought more security for Benghazi post
By Jill Dougherty and Elise Labott
The State Department's top security official in Libya asked for extra security for the consulate in Benghazi in the months before the diplomatic post was overrun in a deadly attack but received no response from superiors, according to documents obtained by CNN.
The disclosure comes ahead of a congressional hearing on Wednesday on the armed assault that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans on September 11. U.S. intelligence believes the incident was a terrorist act.
Eric Nordstrom, the regional security officer in Libya until this past July, had conveyed concerns about the Libyan government's ability overall to protect American diplomatic facilities.
Moreover, he sent two cables to State Department headquarters last March and again in July requesting additional security agents for the Benghazi post, but did not receive any response, according to a summary of his interview with House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Democrats that was obtained by CNN.
The Republican-led panel's hearing will be the first on the attack.
State Department officials: Benghazi attack 'unprecedented'
Nordstrom told the committee that Deputy Assistant Secretary Charlene Lamb wanted to keep the number of U.S. security personnel in Benghazi "artificially low." Nordstrom said she generally believed that extra security was unnecessary because there was a residential safe haven to fall back on in an emergency, according to the summary.
She thought the "best course of action was to assign three agents" to the Benghazi post, the summary quoted Nordstrom as saying.
Nordstrom is not Stevens you said
Stevens asked for extra security in Benghazi, he did not.

Nordstrom asked for two more security personnel..Do you really think that would have stopped the attack?

Really? Did those terrorists infiltrate the FBI and hire a well known biographer to seduce the director of the CIA?
Then did they tell the FBI that the only person they should tell was the republican house majority leader?
Then let that majority leader decide that since the adulterer is a very well known republican leader and figure head, maybe it would be best for the "party of family values" to not have another scandal on their hands, right before election?
Oh oh oh!! Or maybe it's Obama that planned the whole thing with the terrorists? Because that way he could control the Benghazi information? Even though there is still nothing stopping the adulterer from testifying, and now the administration doesn't even have any authority over him to keep him in line.
Or maybe Obama accepted the resignation of a man that made a few to many personal mistakes, and wanted to concentrate his time and effort on his personal life? But I guess that's just to far fetched right?
All I can say is PU. Elmo is in the WH.

I'm ok with you thinking that. Anything that convinces your party that they shouldn't change strategies to try to win elections is great!

Then when we take the house in 2014, we can really get some things done!

<quoted text>You are missing the Point. Gen. Petraeus Came out a few days ago (then he is forced to resign) and Said
"No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.”
So if that is so Who had the Authority to make that call SecDef, SecState, Potus. Because if there was someone Less than that, Making those decisions. Bush is the blame for all the bad that happened during his Presidency, Just ask the media. But with Obama only the good decisions are made by him, The bad seem to come from one of his secretary’s.
If the decision NOT TO DEFEND an US Ambassador And an US Embassy came from someone other than the three people named above than this administration needs Some SERIOUS help with their chain of command structure
The Buck stops AT the Oval Office, Regardless of Party, Race or any other reason you people want to claim
One of the questions I still have is, if help was asked, at what level did this request come from, when during the course of this incident was this request made, what factors were included in this request, i.e. were the factors verified, etc., and who in the chain actually denied such request.

My point is, for all we know right now, the "request for help" was made by a telephone operator or someone else not even authorized to request help. Who know for sure anything until people testify and their credibility, authority and so forth is verified.

I will be interesting to see how this incident unfolded who the players who influenced the outcome were and what their roles were.

Well, there were the emails from the consulate tat tey were under attack. then they said the consulate was cleared.(OK), and then that was emailed to not be correct.

this is when the military started ot act.and sent the drone to benghazi to see what was really going on. The reponse was immediate, but we do not send troops into a foreign country on a few emails. the pentagon followed protocol for such a situation in determining what the situationwas and then sending the proper troops in.

I'm in favor of making the PA Troll (aka The Delegate, this time) the Congressional candidate for his district. He represents their views extremely well.

If he wasn't their candidate already! LOL

Ty died 7 hours after the attack began, after saving 30 others. So two may have been all that was needed, but an armed drone sure would have ended it.

Lol! The investigation is over before it started. Your going to have to find something else to throw at the wall and hope it sticks better.

Good luck.

And don't give up! It's people like you that will insure that the Dems, even with the GOP district restructuring, will take the House in 2014!

After the shambles McCains career is now in, I would think he's not running again, or has a good shot at being removed by the voters if he does.
