Yeah. Like Obama's gonna solve all our problems.

The CEO of UTC makes $65 MILLION last year, and we can't keep mothers & children warm in a CT winter? So what's wrong with America?
This is America, not the soviet union, get over it, he earns it and deserves it.

This is great news except for the fact that it's not only the people on welfare and Social Security that have issues with paying these huge heating costs. I work very hard for my money and I thought I was making a good income until I got hit with the oil and electric bills, they're higher than ever! I really feel sorry for our young because they can hardly find jobs that pay decent money let alone full time. How are they supposed to make it with way things are in Connecticut?? It's time for the government to do what we pay them to, take care of the people, all of them.
It is NOT and NEVER HAS BEEN the job of the government to take care of the people, outside of providing a strong national defense.

Get over it, and make some better decisions with your life!

I agree with Wanda. I thought I had a decent income until the last two years. I haven't put my heat over 62 degrees this winter, and I stay home whenever I'm not working because I can't afford the gas. There are the poor (for whatever their reasons), and there are those of us who have now become the working poor. Many of us need help; we are not all lazy, and we are not all drunks or addicts. So, have some compassion, those of you who think it will never happen to you. I never thought I would be cold all winter, or run out of food, or have to beg for help just to afford to get to work. But, life sometimes takes an unexpected turn.
I'll bet you that just about every person bitching about high fuel costs, and claiming they need help have taken much nicer vacations in the last year than I have.

Suck it up, chumps, if you can't aford your own heat, you are doing something wrong.

Using the power of their numbers consumers save an average of $275 -$500 a year on their home heating oil costs by purchasing fuel as members of a group. Home heating oil prices are subject to supply, demand, geography, politics, weather conditions and other factors. During cold weather, oil prices rise; but through negotiations with oil heat suppliers, Pilgrim gets the best prices for oil group members year-round. http://www.oilforless.com

Our fascist government wants to start a DNA bank for all citizens, even if they have no criminal records.

So, it looks like all the daddies will be tracked.

I agree. Many people forget that Saudi Arabia was a backwater country till Roosevelt used tax money to help them develop their oil wells. Roosevelt had to because they had no start-up capital. This is another reason why oil CEOs shouldn't act so self-righteous about making millions in a single year.

But she has 2 kids with bad health. She had no control over that. If it were Canada, not only would all her medical bills be paid, but the mother would be paid LPN wages to care for her kids. Someone has to do it.

And what about the kids' father. He wouldn't necessarily make enough with all those medical problems anyway.

It's time to revamp the whole system.

Many Americans are moving to Canada just for medical care. Dosen't that scare you?

More handouts to the blacks.
They were exploited for over three-hundred years. If it weren't for Iraq, we could have had single-payor healthcare and slavery reparations.

Have you ever googled "tapeworm economy". It's an interested read.

I don't think it's fair to scapegoat blacks when they developed most of the plantations down South. They helped construct plantations without the modern equipment today. Then they had to maintain them. Then many of them had to sexually service the masters. They were treated worse than animals many times.

Remember a few years back when the descendants of slaves from Thomas Jefferson's estate "Monticello" were being denied the right to be buried there? Unless they had white boy Jefferson's DNA, they were to be denied burial there.

The slaves actually made all the bricks for the plantation, built the plantation, remodeled it several times, maintain the plantation AND produce children for Jefferson after his wife died. Seems to me they should be buried there whether or not they had his DNA.

I cannot believe the lack of sympathy and compassion from people in my own state. Your answers of get a job are simple. By that I mean it appears to be a simple solution, however, have you seen the number of layoffs in this state? To suggest that getting a job will solve this woman's issue is idiotic. I agree working to care for yourself and your family is necessary, but you folks are taking that for granted.

This woman has sick children who need her home to care for them. Your moronic comments about her "baby-daddy" is prejudiced and laced with assumptions. Prejudiced because you are clearly slurring her character by assuming she doesn’t know where he is, she is a minority or he isn't around or is lacking in something. Your comments are offensive! And for those of you who suggest she has more than one “baby-daddy”, shame on you. You are worse off than she is. She lacks money and heat. You lack intelligence.

There are people in this state who work and do not make as much money as you highly, opinionated and ignorant people. You cannot be that ignorant of the high cost of heating. And wait….it will catch up to you. Your commute to work will be more costly, your lifestyle will become more costly…but your pay will remain the same. That is if unemployment doesn’t find you that first. And before you go making assumptions about me you should know that I work full time and have a salary that will support me. That does not mean I have not had my share of down-trodden times. Your downtrodden moments may not have found you yet, good for you. But they will. And when they do my hope for you is that some kind, compassionate person helps you. Humility and humbleness is not a character flaw.

It may not be long before some of you become the working poor of Connecticut.

Those who are not part of the solution are a part of the problem.

Shame on you.
