The change comes after years of concern about sinking lake levels. Low lake levels last year forced the Corps of Engineers and numerous marinas to dredge to keep navigation channels open for freighters and pleasure boats.

Lake Michigan, which dropped 44 inches since 1998 and came within five inches of its record low in December, began to rise in January.

The notion of human-caused Global Warming is a joke.

It's a joke because the supporters are asking for hundreds of billions of dollars plus a lower standard of living and the science doesn't bear it out.

A theory has to include all known information about a subject. The supporters of Global Warming specifically and deliberately omit some key facts.

- First, how did the many earlier cycles happen without humans?(I'm talking about the Ice Ages.)

- What about the effects of the Sun? The Sun goes through a myriad of overlapping cycles that science is just starting to understand. How can the models operate without detailed knowledge of these cycles? The answer is the models are inaccurate and wrong.(What else is missing from the models?)

- It turns out that farm animals spew out more so-called "greenhouse gases" than every car, truck, etc. To the normal person, this would be good news because it means we don't have to spend the hundreds of billions.

Alas, the Global Warming nuts are not normal. They are Socialists and Socialists have to take money from the rich. This is why the Kyoto Treat ignores the developing nations and only focuses on the developed world - and especially the US.

As I said, human-caused Global Warming is a big joke and it's a lie - all foisted on us by Modern Liberals/Democrats. The good news is I think more and more people are realizing that human-caused Global Warming is a big myth - it's just that not too many understand the Socialist angle.

this one is just pissin me off.

this summer will probably go down as one of the cooler summers on record, quite the contrary of what they claim. the storms in iowa and wisconsin are serving to reduce our temps, not increase them, as other climatologists have noted in other articles. observations show western/northern illinois to be "greener"(less drought like) at this time of year than in years past.

i conclude that these studies are useless and a waste of money.

The Great Lakes vessels can carry more tonage (higher revenue) when the water level is high. The water transportation companies would be very happy with the 20% increase which does sound like a pure fantasy.

Do you have any idea where the Great Lakes water shed begins???? I doubt it ...do some research before you show yourself a fool. The vast , vast majority of Illinois is not in the Great Lakes watershed.

Man you really have to quit writing unless you enjoy showing yourself a fool. Your example shows nothing....either way. For example, just because a certain population of people has a below average height does not mean that you cannot find a few people within that population who may be far above average in height. You simply cannot extrapolate population trends from individual data points.

We had one of the longest winters I have seen in a very long time earlier this year. We have also had fewer days this summer where the temperature has gone above 90 degrees. This is why I laugh out loud ever time I hear the expression "global warming". It is a myth and a hoax and nothing more than that. I don't understand how you can say it is not bad. The planet may not have any more polar bears soon because of the melting ice caps... which is a result of global warming. That is just one of the direct affects of global warming due to human intervention. This is not a natural event.
