Alaska GOP senator urges Obama to lift ban on U.S. oil exports

Jan 14, 2014 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Reuters

Senator Lisa Murkowski urged President Barack Obama on Tuesday to lift a ban on exporting U.S.-produced crude oil, stepping up pressure on the administration to allow producers involved in the domestic energy boom to gain access to global markets.

Ban?

"The United States exports more oil than it imports for the first time since 1995, in a growing trend sped by the controversial practice of hydraulic fracturing.

For the month of October, the U.S. averaged exports of 7.7 million barrels of oil per day while taking in just 7.6 million barrels per day (bpd), according to the Energy Information Administration ."

She is trying to get more $$ for the people of her state by being able to sell more of their state's oil. When Alaskan oil is sold, everyone the state gets a cut. If only the people of WV could take a lesson from Alaska.

Wow talk about clueless. Dont let your political bias get in the way of a politician trying to better his/her state's population instead of driving jobs out of state and raising taxes. Her "request" would bring more middle class jobs (not you $12 an hr minimum wage dream jobs) and ease gas pricing by adding more product to the market. Not that you would see that through your extremist, left wing "I hate everything Republican good or bad" view of things. Its people like you who are part of the problem, not the solution. Try judging each topic on its merits instead of the party they represent. All of us would be better off.

From the article------While U.S. energy companies are allowed to export oil products, including gasoline and jet fuel, a presidential waiver from current laws is required to sell most crude oil abroad. The Mineral Leasing Act of 1920 and the Outer Continental Shelf Leasing Act effectively bar exports for now.--------- Seems there are pros and cons to this law, but making conclusions based on political party instead of the merits of the ideas/suggestions is killing this country. See the user who's name is a perfect example of the ignorance I speak of, "conservative crapola". never even giving the idea an honest look, he/she just bashes away. Sad really. We all pay in the end due to extremist garbage like that user.

Ah, yes, the ol' it'll create jobs and ease gas prices ploy by teahadist. teahadist tried that and the CEO of TransCanada, himself, testified they were under no obligation to direct product to the U.S. and that it would create few permanent jobs, as the pipeline is designed for automation. Suddenly Murky is an oil baroness, but with tired, old talking points. And you, too are out of gas. LMAO.

Stay on topic buddy. You are so eager to bash republicans you cant even focus on the subject at hand.

Your extremism has once again proven to get in the way of the facts. At no point in the article provided is there any mention of pipe lines or Trans-Canada. Filling in the your own make believe facts and bullshit doesnt change the fact that you dont have a clue as to what you are talking about. Thanks for proving that again.

Shes asking the president to allow them to put more product in the market!!!!! What part of that dont you get? You think (hypothetically) she gets the ok from Pres Obama and then wouldnt act on it? What is your problem? Did you actually read the article? Of course you didnt. You just want to argue. Facts be damned!

it is cheaper for them to send that unrefined crude to say Japan or Russia and have it refined then sold on the market then it would be to ship it all back to the US. Under current US law, they are not able to send this unrefined crude abroad.

It doesnt make economic sense for alaska or the US as everyone would gain from them being able to refine at a cheaper place. Especially the residents of alaska as they will get a cut from any profits of their natural resources.

Does more crude on the market bring prices down? Yes. Would this little amount of crude that would be heading to the market anyways bring down prices in any noticeable manner if refined overseas? No

But it is completely understandable why she would want this.

Obama really must be against his ObamaCare fiasco.

White House pushes back ObamaCare enrollment deadline for pre-existing conditions. Nothing like adding one more illegal move to his resume.

What happen to "Energy Independence" and wanting to break our ties with importing oil from countries in the middle east who really don't like America? Seems to me that the production of oil here at home could benefit the consumers in America rather than exporting the product overseas. Who drinks more oil than America?

Her Constituents, it's more like her political donors.

How does exporting oil found here in America benefit the constituents here in America? The idea of accessing some of those oil fields and wells was justified by the produce that would be introduced into the market. Nobody was interested in the overseas market, but exclusively desired benefiting the American consumers here at home.

The Central theme of politicians campaigns and lobbying efforts was built about meeting the American demand for oil.

Either the call for accessing wells and fields for Energy Independence was a lie then, or she's blowing smoke now. The grand elaborate lie was connecting energy independence to national security. I see that was a crock of bull, since the conversation has flipped to exporting oil.
