Why the 'Citizen Militia' Theory Is the Worst Pro-Gun Argument Ever

There are 29 comments on the www.theatlantic.com story from Jan 31, 2013, titled Why the 'Citizen Militia' Theory Is the Worst Pro-Gun Argument Ever. In it, www.theatlantic.com reports that:

The notion that an individual right to bear arms guarantees the American people against government tyranny is of course an old one. Given its apparent validation in the Second Amendment of the Constitution itself, it's not surprising that the notion has survived in some way through to the 21st century. Given its defiance of history and common sense, though, what should be surprising is that it's survived to remain so widespread.

Frightwing patriots is the new American Taliban. You don't like the election results by the majority so you plan to over throw the government. You are all Anti-Americans and should be hung to death for Treason.
The government was overthrown decades ago. Living off the wages of tax slaves has throttled your mind. if it makes you feel any better, what will replace what you see is the laws already enacted to bring the full bloom of a state of tyranny. The real battle is for who will control that. And who will get the blame. History always repeats.

I see no removal of the laws enacted to take our rights away. So i disagree.

You are attempting to talk sense to a robo-troll. Good luck with that.
There might not have been a natzi war machine if there had been a armed German public and even if there were it is better go go out fighting and die than to be loaded onto a railroad car, starved then gasses.

And if my sister had nutz she would be my brother.
The nazi's were very smart about how the rounded up the Jews. Millions of them went peacefully. the Nazis used lies and deception to such a degree that when the Jews were loaded on to the trains, most of them believed they were being sent off to a better life.
This we need guns to prevent Nazi Germany argument is really really really dumb.
In the 1940s we rounded up all the Japanese Americans into camps. None of them fought back and shot at the soldiers. These japs were living in America where they were able to buy a gun if they wanted. Did they fight back? NO. So this assumption that Jewish mothers armed with AR15s would have stopped the Holocaust is not based on an kind of fact or historical evidence. It's just something stupid the gun rights paranoid started yelling about because when ever someone brings up the Nazis people listen.

Today the only thing it seems like gun owners have been capable of doing is shooting and victimizing children, and the unarmed.
I'm not impressed and think all gun owners should have many many many more hoops to jump they to legally own firearms.
If making millions of gun owners miserable with stupid new laws save even one kid from being shot by an armed dumbass.....it is worth it.

The Constitution and its Bill of Rights are designed to protect the Individual from the majority and from the gov't. You and millions of communists are using democracy to rule and bully individuals and other smaller groups.

Your definition of tyranny is: a group of people opposed to communism.

The citizen militia in Oregon is showing it is not the way to go. What did they accomplish?
One 55 year old deceased male and racked up many felonies.

The Fluffy guy in the video still inciting violence and trying to get military guys to come up there and defend them is a complete imbecile.

It made national headlines.
They did touch on a nerve many Americans can relate to.
They proved the government would kill citizens over a piece of dirt in the middle of nowhere that already belong to us all (including those who occupied it).

It also brought out the issue of the land being mined and the deposits there that those in power want.

Uranium on BLM-Administered Lands in OR/WA

YES! There is Uranium there!(Among other things)

It kind of reminds you of the deal between Harry Reid and the Chinese over the BLM land around the Bundy ranch.
Of course once it came out, then Ole Harry decided to resign and the deal fell through.

While most of us don't relate to the "redneck" fashion these citizens took, it would do us well to realize their intent was righteous.

This 55 year old male gave his life for a cause. Try to get all the facts before you dismiss his death. If he felt it was worth dying for then maybe there is more than the media is telling.
