A perfect example of why our Congress is not in the least serious about spending reductions. IF they were, they'd be reducing military spending, bit by bit, on a regular, ongoing basis. Wasting over $630 billion, plus billions more off the books, is an obscenity given our economic situation.

Hard to respect this vote, and those making it. No matter WHICH party they belong to.

The democrat majority passed it also, after campaigning against a large budget for the military, you moron. The republicans still believe in defending our country. You demrats want to give it over to the UN.

The democrats caved again to the most wasteful GOP spending possible. Just handing billions to a few republicans makes no sense. Why not have them work for that money instead of just stealing from us to keep the GOP fat, dumb and happy? Is there anything the democrats won't cave to?

As to defending the nation, you can't be serious. There is no need to spend more than the rest of the world combined. It is corporate welfare, nothing more. They make you afraid and take your money.

While we should blame Dems for voting for this mess, the amnount in question is far, FAR more than we need to "defend this country" and that's been true since post-WWII.

No one wants to "give it to the U.N.," an impossibility in any case. Try being rational, you sound like a Bircher.

Then that same nation was met with another nation in 1941 that spent money on bullets.

But this same body couldn't pass a U.N. Treaty to benefit the handicapped, despite the efforts of a wheelchair-bound Bob Dole to encourage them to do so.

http://thehill.com/video/senate/271219-sen-ke...

"One of the things that I thought was most sad about yesterday was, here's a veteran of World War II, grievously wounded in that war and he's on the floor, this man who defended American sovereignty and yet people were there suggesting somehow that he was there less than to defend America's sovereignty with this vote. To me that was just such an amazing slap in the face and a contradiction," said Kerry on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."

Dole, appearing in a wheelchair, hoped to rally additional support for the treaty.

The treaty, which was backed by President Obama and first signed by former President George W. Bush, fell five votes short of the two-thirds majority needed for ratification. Dozens of Senate Republicans objected, claiming that it would create new abortion rights and impede the ability of people to homeschool disabled children.

Kerry told MSNBC that yesterday was a "very, very sad day for the Senate."

Very sad indeed. "New abortion rights?" "Inability to homeschool children??" What DRUGS are these people TAKING???

The Democrats caved?

Perhaps you should see who sponsored the bill and what it contains.

Here's a hint: Senator Carl Levin
