Hey Minute -

For some reason I used my return ticket. I must say it was very interesting listening to the comments of the locals while I was gone.

Many of the islanders had never actually experienced an open, democratic election and most were sure that our elections worked pretty much like theirs - you get to vote but the outcome is predetermined. They were convinced that the US Government would never allow Obama to win and that the vote counting was rigged. If nothing else, the election provided them with some insight into the real workings of our democracy (ok representative republic).

On anither note - the locals had all heard someone - probably another tourist - repeat the "Obama is a Muslim" or "he's not a Citizen" lies and couldn't understand why such foolishness was tolerated. They told me that they expected such games from their government but that they always thought that the US would somehow be better than this.

On a much better note - 3rd day drift dive along a big wall. My wife and I and our friends were at about 75 feet when we noticed a large shadow below - Tiger - about 11 feet and looked to be as broad as a VW Bug! It was also riding the current and crusing the wall - cared not a lick for us and we were able to follow it from a distance for another five minutes. Hard to care too much about our puny squables after seeing something like that.

Hope you're having a good one - take care

Hey LTR! Great to hear from ya'. Man I love the smell of diesel on the diveboat in the morning. I know that sounds weird, but there's something about heading out on the boat and smelling the salt air and faint diesel that gets me going.

I glad you had a great time. The ocean is such a tremendous place. You have to feel sorry for people that never experience it like divers do.

Welcome back and maybe I'll get to go soon. I added a new horse to the farm, so been pretty busy with her. She's a paint and a real looker. Though she be but small, she is fierce!

On Obama. I nnever belived any of the "cannon fodder" about him being a closet Muslim. My big worry is that he is Sooooo liberal. I'm really concerned about his Socialist leanings. This is a capitalistic society and to try and change that is flirtin' with disaster. I'm all for helping the poor (and do work with a local homeless mission) but I'm not for total social care. I hope for the best for our country.

Good to hear from ya! I gotta go diving SOON!

Minute - I know what you mean about Obama. I said early on that his actual policies gave me reason enough not to vote for him. Unfortunately McCain forgot who he was (or used to be), ran a terrible campaign - and the inmates with all the ridiculous spam and rumors never understood that they weren't helping the situation. I hope that I am pleasantly surprised by both Obama's performance and the Republican party's adjustments ...

In total we managed to get in 10 dives and 3 full days of sailing (not booze cruise / snorkle trip crap - just 4 of us on a 64 footer!- the best therapy in the world). Tell me again why I came back?

Take care of the Paint - I grew up on a family farm with cattle & hogs and always marveled at the additional work and patience required for our neighbors with horses.

Best to you

Yeah, I agree. I was disappointed in McCain's campaign. Frankly there just weren't any good options for President this cycle, going all the way back to the primaries in both parties. I didn't vote McCain in the primaries. The pool we normally draw from is Congress and Governors. How sad is the talent pool these days? When you have a lower approval rating than Bush, you are in real trouble.

Our favorite thing to do was to charter a boat in S. Florida and cruise the Bahamas. Believe it or not, on one trip we saw Buffett at the Compleat Angler in Bimini. He flew Hemisphere Dancer in to do some fishing and decided to have dinner and play some tunes for our boat of 15 divers. Un-freakin' believable! I'll never forget it.

Sounds like you had a great trip. Take care,

Great job Sen. Obama

Greetings Fellower Bloggers"News Chick":

The thread, Obama: Constitution stained by 'sin of slavery' has been an active thread since March 18, 2008, the significant mirror of destiny stood before America for us to see the reflection of who we are on November 4, 2008.--- I write you because your posting was the first post of the tens of thousands that have been read, of the tens of thousands of quality postings on this thread. These postings have been read by more than twice the number of bloggers that took the time to write them.

On the behalf of the many thousands, I champion topix’s 2008 Election Forum, you and the many bloggers on this thread and others, which not only witnessed this historical election but, were invaluable participants as the voices of America. This election was a victory of all citizens and, of all races, creeds and colors. It was a symbolic victory of the stained fabrics of our country. We have arrived at a time in history that an American citizen can be and will be elected to the Presidency of the United States America by the content of his/her character, based on the contents of the substance of the platform that her/his’ team formulated by hearing and listening to the voices of the U.S.A. citizens and their representatives in the interest of the people.

Indeed the jury is out now beyond the Constitution stained by 'sin of slavery'; it will deliver a verdict of whether or not our citizens surrounding President-Elect Obama and his team members can keep our Country First and Political Party Second, as his administration governs according to the accountability of the voters in both parties that elected him, as well, as the 46% that felt Senators’ McCain way was the way our nation should be going. The sensitivity that President Obama in his practical reality that there wasn’t a 20% margin and that humbleness was needed was honorable.

The President’s team must continue to administer to the nurturing healing process of all the fibers of the United States of America. Many people beyond (within and without) the Democrats Party took a long look at the directions our country was heading. The upward spiral and the plan for recourse will foster healing of many unattended wounds and divisions in our two parties and our country.

It is essential that many experts of all parties’ classes, colors, creeds and cultures will be apart of the unified commitment to advance the United States of America into the 21ST Century and through a genuine healing process. Together we can make the essential changes we need, to resolve the crises that our nation is being confronted with today.

Your posting sowed a historical seed; we must continue to pray FY 2009 for the USA will evolve into a year of unity and advancement that will guide us into a change for prosperity and growth as a mature 21ST Century Advanced United States of America---A nation by the people, of the people and for the people!

How can we continue to unify this great nation? What can we do for our country?
God Bless America,1956

The broad interpretation of the Constitution - and the "stains" to which are attributed to it - will be the downfall of America (along with the Designated Hitter, but now I'm rambling).

America needs leaders now who govern least. You know, a Thomas Jefferson, the original liberal. We need a conservative mindset with infused liberal thinking. We need an overseer, not a man who wants to change the fundamentals of our economy (among other things).

The racism of the 19th and 20th centuries is around now because Americans let it stay around. If nobody worried about race anymore - whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, and anyone else who decides to move to America - then it wouldn't be an issue. That said, I wonder how many hadn't thought about race all day before Mr. Obama's speach? Now..that, my friends, is immediate change.

However, I'm not into President bashing, as it is totally pointless. Instead, I'm going to do what I should do as an American, and get behind our leader and do my best to better myself and serve my nation. Good Luck BO..

So, you are in favor of leaving things as they were? The greatest change can only occur when one changes their ownselves. You have unwittingly accepted that "change" cannot occur, and that things would have been better if they remained as they were. The nation has moved on, why haven't you?

The only constant is change, you know that. The question is, what kind of change?

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Scorpio

If you haven't seen certain people during the past few days, how about inviting them over for a drink or a meal? You're feeling sociable and will enjoy doing some light entertaining although you'll draw the line at anything too strenuous. It's a lovely day for being in familiar surroundings with some familiar faces, even if all you do is flop on the sofa.
