That's just it - by law, a hate crime isn't about 1 person. Its meant to intimidate and cause damage to an entire group of people, thus the impact of the crime is magnified.

How obtuse can you be?!?

You contradict yourself within this one post. You cannot say murder is murder regardless of intent then turn around and say a perpetrator's intent (premeditation) is a different degree of crime.

Hate crimes get stricter sentences because the perpetrator was charged with a different crime. Going back to my post #202, the smiley face spray painter gets charged and sentenced for vandalism. The swastika spray painter gets charged with a hate crime. The sentence is different because the crime was different. And it is a hate crime because the act was not directed at an individual but against the entire group.

You and your post are totally irrelevant. Correta Scott King supporting gay marriage in no way obligates me to do so. Nor am I obligated in any way to agree with her assessment re gay "bashing." Your cited article refered to her quote of "Tuesday." That suggests that the quote was from long ago since she has been dead for six years. I am not obligated to agree with her. Unlike yourself, I can (and do) think for myself and come up with my own opinions. That they do not agree with yours is a clear indication that I am on the right track.
Please try to not continually embarrass yourself by your stupidity.
Homophobia is a range of negative attitudes and feelings towards homosexuality and people who are identified or perceived as being homosexual. Although the suffix phobia normally refers to irrational fear, definitions of homophobia have expanded to refer variably to antipathy, contempt, prejudice, and aversion, as well as irrational fear. It is observable in critical and hostile behavior such as discrimination[1][2] and violence on the basis of a perceived non-heterosexual orientation. In a 1998 address, author, activist, and civil rights leader Coretta Scott King stated that "Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood."

Among some of the more discussed forms of homophobia are institutionalized homophobia (e.g. religious homophobia and state-sponsored homophobia, lesbophobia – the intersection of homophobia and sexism directed against lesbians, and internalized homophobia – a form of homophobia among people who experience same-sex attraction regardless of whether or not they identify as LGBT.

Blacks used to be legally considered 3/5 of a human being. Was I obligated to agree with that if a poll says it is a majority opinion? People opposing gay marriaghe used to be in a large majoritry. Were you obligated to aggree with that?
Will you never stop trying to prove your stupidity? There's nothing left to prove. You're stupid. I get it.
Willful Ignorance (noun)

The practice or act of intentional and blatant avoidance, disregard or disagreement with facts, empirical evidence and well-founded arguements because they oppose or contradict one's own existing personal beliefs.

This practice is most commonly found in the political or religious ideologies of "conservative" Americans.

Many times it is practiced due to laziness--people not wanting to have to do the work to rethink their opinions, the fear of the unknown, the fear of being wrong, or sometimes simply close-mindedness.

Okay so you spent 676 characters saying nothing of value or germaine to the issue. I'll pose the questions again. If you find that you can't or won't answer them reasonably, I'll assume that they are beyond your capacity for honesty.(And really, what isn't?) and not waste any more time on you... except to make fun of your stupidity. Here goes.

"What makes you fantasize that I have any obligation to agree with a position I don't agree with? Are you obligated to agree with a position you don't agree with?"

And by the way, I'm arrogant.

Remember your post above any time you are stupid enough to call anybody ELSE a troll.

And your post #281 also avoided answering the questions. I realize your desperation to sound clever and to somehow "beat" me (however that would look). Don't waste you time. Ain't never gonna happen. AT least not by you. And if you think you have or ever will, you're even stupider than I thought.(Not possible.) And yes, I've had my clock cleaned and by somebody on your side. You have no chance.

What you're all missing is the fact that LBGTG people already have civil rights, as in they can use the same bathrooms, same buses, same schools, same hospitals, and are not required to be separate from non gay people. There is ZERO possible comparison because those rights are promised already.

I support gay marriage 100%, but...don't go crazy. We can't compare the two at all

I agree with you (except for gay marriage part). Gay rights are gay rights. The civil rights movement was much more profound!

You are forgetting that when the gay equal rights movement started in 1924 it was still illegal in every state just to be gay. Every state in the U.S. criminalized homosexual sex between consenting adults in a private home as late as 1960: An adult convicted of the crime of having sex with another consenting adult in the privacy of his or her home could get anywhere from a light fine to five, ten, or twenty years—or even life—in prison. In Pennsylvania and California sex offenders could be locked in a mental institution for life, and in seven states they could be castrated. Castration, emetics, hypnosis, electroshock therapy, and lobotomies were used by psychiatrists to attempt to "cure" homosexuals of their desires through the 1950’s and 1960’s. In 1971, twenty states still had ’sex psychopath’ laws that permitted the detaining of homosexuals for that reason alone. Consensual sex between adults of the same sex remained a crime in 24 states until June 26, 2003, when the Supreme Court repealed those unconstitutional laws in Lawrence v. Texas, though several states have not yet removed those unconstitutional laws from their books.

The government required gay people be fired from all government related jobs in the 50's, and the requirement to punish gay people in the military remained until last year. The laws that protect people in housing, employment, and public accommodations based on race and choice of religious belief, do not cover gay people. They can still be fired, denied housing, public accomodations, credit, etc., in several states. Adoption is also prohibited to gay couples in a few states, and several states continue to attempt to pass anti-gay laws in addition to denial of marriage equality.

So the gay civil rights movement has come a long way since 1924, and most of the rights guaranteed to others have finally been attained in the last decade, there are still a few equal rights left before full legal equality is realized.
