What is this honor the first black Marines..........for what..........being black? Or to let them think that they were special and did a hell of a lot more than any white Marine. Seem to me that you have to keep stroking the black losers into thinking they are special, FLASH!!!!! You blacks are nothing special!!!!! The only thing that blacks have done of any note is figure out how to beat the system so that they don't have to do anything. For women it's fall on their backs and spit out a bastard every 12 to 14 months, for men ( Ha Ha) they just live off the women.Of course those are them of the majority on the streets of America. Most of those in the military just do their job excluding the women of course.

Nobody was forced to join any branch of the military, their volunteer's. If you have a problem with war don't join. Anyone who enlists swears an oath of allegiance and fully knows that in the event of conflict that the military is going to be involved. Bad guy's just don't dry up and blow away, blow hard.

How many times has someone gotten inadvertently injured at a baseball game by a bat or foul ball. If your going to participate in a riotous melee where missiles are being thrown or discharged odds are someone is going to sustain injury. In this case it happened to be a vet and for that reason he's become the object of scrutiny.

The general qualifications to enlist in the military are; Age

Applicants Married to Military Members
Education

Criminal History
Height/Weight Standards
Medical Physical

These Marines were honored for being the first black men permitted to serve as Marines. There were plenty of blacks before them who could have served as well as they, and as well as any Marine served from Day One. But due to racism ingrained in America, blacks were not permitted to be Marines.

It was America's loss, it diminished what America was until the racism was remedied. Blacks are not greater than others, but they have been as intelligent, as capable, and as deserving as the Founders and any early American. The more America puts racism behind it, the less diminished it becomes.

Unfortunately it is still a work in progress, as evidenced by your foolish post. At least people like you are fringe characters, declining in number.

The only thing you have said is "blacks are not greater others" that's why they out number whites in every prison in America. But when people like Mr.Cain or Bill Cosby, who happen to be exceptions, stand up and tell blacks that they are the problem, their called Uncle Toms. There's a couple of real men! I have also noticed that your distastful party is now trying to paint Mr.Cain as ugly. You liberal scum need to be put away.
On to the wonderful things blacks have done for America besides filling American jails, have more children out of wedlock than whites, have more single parent homes than whites, have a higher rate of drop outs in high school than whites, have a higher rate of those on wellfare than whites, have more that can't read or write than whites. Guess what they are only 12% of the population. WOW! blacks have really done a lot of nothing of value. No gold star, no attaboys, no honors from this corner of the world for blacks, unless they earn it and just being there isn't earning anything.
Having spent 20+ years in the military and 3 1/2 of combat I have seen a lot of black service men and guess what, all they wanted to do was the job. Didn't need to be honored, those are real men.
Do not for a second think that I am a minority or a fringe person of all the people I happen to know, they all feel the same. And a few of them are black.

1) Blacks you served with were not the first blacks to serve as Marines. Those first servers were the ones honored, for being the first to serve. They were not necessarily any braver, any more worthy, any more honorable Marines. They were simply the first blacks not denied the opportunity because they were black.

2) All the people YOU know? You need to meet more people. You'll learn more and you'll be confronted with the fact complex problems are not explained by simplistic stereotypes which paint entire people groups with one broad brush

Why are they being honored for serving, the person or persons that made it possably for them to serve should be the one or ones that should be honored. I guess you feel differently but as for me the only person or persons I honor are those that earn it, not someone because they happen to be black, orange, yellow, brown or white. The key word here is earn, they earned nothing. After 78 years on this earth I have met more than my fair share of people, most have had their heads screwed on correctly but lately what I have seen in America makes me really question if what I put up with for 20 years was worth it, when I see what trash America is producing in high schools and colleges and on the political fronts. Most wouldn't make a pimple on a real stand up man's ass. O(H and most are liberals!!!

They acknowledged these guys were the first to serve; and perhaps even more honored the act of ending the practice of discrimination by denying blacks the chance to serve.

I honestly don't see how that diminishes the service of anyone else. Nobody says they are better than you or anybody else who served; only that they were the first blacks & that with their enlistment the US stopped discrimination in this way. Maybe we do see it differently, but I believe both are worthy of commemoration.

By the way, I disagree with most your politics and find many of your comments over the top. Nevertheless, your service to this country is commendable. Thank you for putting in all the time you did serving.

When I first entered the military and was assigned to an Air Base in America, the dental clinic had two chairs one for whites and one for colored and so marked, but the killer was there was not one black person assigned to that base, not one. In fact I met my very first American Mexican, still don't know how he got there.
What I was alluding to, was those that allowed or made it possible for those folks to enlist are the people that should be honored and I'm not say that their enlistment wasn't OK, it's just not something to be honored.
By the way the 3 1/2 years in the Vietnam conflict were the best years of my life and having been back many, many times, not for anything like closure, because that reason is BS, but to remember the great times and there still are great time there. Rico in East LA is an idiot!!!!!!

Honoring Black Marines is an example of DISCRIMINATION....pure and simple.

We are supposed to be non discriminatory aren't we ?
