Wow! what a great analysis of what is actually happening in politics today. I can only hope that Americans can wake up and identify the Hypublicans tactics to rip-off the public.

I've slowly watched this occur since I was a young man in the 80's. Unfortunately, I was a loud republican then, but the scenario is always the same with them...
1. Discredit the News organization that reports the inconsistency, falsehood, or half-truth.
2. come up with a easy to remember ad campaign like, DRILL BABY DRILL, JOB KILLING HEALTHCARE LAW, or the most decieving of all, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN...
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until all the low information voters can't forget it and actually believe it.

I only came out of republican brainwashing after I became educated and started reading things other than the what the church and the republicans said was ok to read.

I have hope that the younger generation with their ability to use technologies will be exposed to enough truthful and balanced reporting that they won't be able to be manipulated as easily as I was when I was younger.

Maybe next week you could write something heartfelt and inspirational concerning the horrible events that took place in Tucson this weekend. Progressives have to come up with a better way to confront the madness that is going on in our society. Fox News, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, and Palin have to be exposed by using a higher level of discourse. Not higher in that people can't intellectually comprehend, but higher in that it touches the soul and the good parts of Americans who have had enough of this divisive nonsense.

It is time to separate the difference between free speech, like we are allowed here, and paid speech. Propaganda and assault that is hiding under the cover of free speech, is damaging our country. It is time to hold the media accountable. Where, if you are paid, then it is facts or labeled fiction. (excepting the opinion page, of course, where opinions of all sides are shared.) Where we have forums for free speech and discourse, but an end to paid assassins who encourage violence and the degradation of our society for the profit of the few.

Where were you when all of this was going. These images, text and videos are more than a little disturbing, but I'm sure you lefties will overlook the bias as you so often are inclined to do.

It's perfectly acceptable when the hate and threats of violence are directed at conservatives as in the leftist eyes it is JUSTIFIED.

Red Robert Red Bluff is always your biggest cheerleader/fan. I overlook his threads. I read your column to get a laugh. Stealing from good hard-working Americans will get you a revolution. Absolutely nobody is starving in this country. Anybody who needs help, gets it. Nobody gets turned away.

Hypocrisy knows no boundaries. You can find as much hypocricy from Democrats on the Net as you can from Republicans. My favorite is "A Brief Compilation of DemocRAT Hypocrisy". It gives the names, dates and quotes of all of the Democrats who worried about Saddam's WMD's before we went into Iraq. A very funny one is when Pelosi was briefed about waterboarding and then said she never heard of it. Your self-righteous Democrats should not be put on any pedestals. Politicians will say anything to you for one reason: They want your vote. After they get that, they go back to their political survival status. Most politician's are lawyers. Everybody knows the public's opinion concerning lawyers.

I'm a fan because I appreciate good writing that is well thought out and shows a touch of humility and humanity. Unfortunately, you missed the point of the article and ran off into WMD land where all the lawyers live. Wow! Step away from the cheap beer can!

And to think that "Fortunately his quest is toothless" when addressing healthcare costs and dare suggest, "increasing competition, eliminating frivolous lawsuits, and creating a level playing field for all Americans to have access to affordable coverage."
Something that is either absent in the current legislation or works against these things.

NEVER MIND Richard that you're beloved Democrats said, "this bill isn't perfect" when they passed it.

Yeah, for sure I don't have much respect for a, "Hypublican" but a Denialcrat isn't any better.

Well Sanity, we know which side of the constitution you are on, since you believe that we are "ALLOWED TO HAVE HAVE FREE SPEECH". Free speach is a constitional right, not something that we are allowed to have.

Another constitional expert comes out of the wood work and shows that they can miss a point like no other. Paid speech is a reference to the multimillions of dollars that people like Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh and Palin receive for stirring the pot with their comments that have no useful place in our society other than to stir the pot and make themselves rich. It is like we pay them to yell fire in a theater all day. They don't even believe half the crap they are paid to say.

Hey Richard, I'll just call you Dick. When your party has control, and Republicans speak out, they are name callers and speak ony rhetoric as you say. Now the Republicans have power, and you whyne and name call, and talk rhetoric. What a simple closed minded Dick you are. See Dick cry, see Dick moan, see Dick take our money, but not repay the loan. I for one wish this Dick would quit selling his line of rubbish. Our ethics and morals in society have eroded horribly. Thanks Dick, it is just your types that have greatly led to the breakdown. Why don't you just move on Dick? We are a conservative area up here, not a place for Dicks'. Go to SF where you fit in with the other lefy wing homos.

No Robert, you missed the point, as I wasn't talking about paid speech. I was referring to Sanity and his statement that we are "allowed free speech". Under the Constitution we are quarantied free speech and no one has the right to take that away.

Wow! What Church do you go to? I'm sure you're considered an upstanding citizen in your realm of Hypocrits. Lets see now, Hate, self-rightousness, not one shed of humility, name calling, insults to an entire geographic area, assumptions about personal conduct you have no clue about, must I continue? I would guess you're an elder at fundamentalist christian church that also serves as the local gun club. Thank you for your imput. You make a progressives job much easier in discrediting the far right fringe of our society. Now let us pray that you come out of delusion, repent and maybe not have to spend eternity in hell. It would be nice if you didn't contribute to making this life a living hell with time you have left.

Good response to some real insanity. God is angry with his church for following the path of hate talk, we have fallen into. Myself included. I am really going to try to get my point across without slander, name calling or angry words, because it is obviously wrong and has serious and deadly consequences. I have been part of the problem, along with a tortured and horribly divided America. My pastor spoke of this and the horrible shooting of innocent people by a mad man.

The Bible reinforces again and again, how we should act, speak and think... and that is not the way the Christian Church has been acting, speaking and thinking. Myself included. Let's face it I am passionate about politics, but if it tears down who I am in Christ, then it's just another obsession. It's good to speak out, have opinions and fight corrupt government systems, but obviously tearing each other up with our words of hate has created an America, and a person, I don't like so much anymore.

I'm a Democrat, but I feel guilty over some of my words and conduct that may have contributed to the hateful raging over politics. I feel responsible for adding to the hate talk going on in America the last few years and the horrible tragedy that resulted in good people being murdered. America is responsible and its elected officials.

...and for sure, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are directly responsible for this tragedy. If Palin wants to be President, she shouldn't do things like target candidates with crossbars and tell people not to back down, but reload, with a little laugh and a twinkle in her eye. "Not violently," she says. Senator Gifford commented that people like Palin should watch their words, because some nut might take you seriously and actually kill someone...and then someone did.

What would Limbaugh and Palin say if President Obama had had the same map, only targeting Republican lawmakers and made the same statements as Palin; and innocent supporters were murdered by some nut. The Republicans would be all over that and they would be right, because Presidents or people who want to be President should be disciplined and mature enough to avoid the constant political fray and hate talk between the parties.
