Perhaps the Daily Democrat has an easier time endorsing the Democrat?
Or perhaps the paper shares the view of some that Herger has committed the unforgiveable sin of being in office "too long" - which is a rather un-democratic position, of course, as he has not stayed in office any longer than the majority of voters in his district would wish.
