GOP Rep: Story of Matthew Shepard's Murder A "Hoax"

Full story: gay_blog.blogspot.com

As the House of Representatives debates an expansion of hate crimes legislation, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) has taken the rhetoric to a new level, claiming that those who say Matthew Shepard was murdered in Wyoming for being gay are perpetrating a "hoax" on the American people. "I also would like to point out that there was a bill -- the hate crimes bill that's called the Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed, but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay. This -- the bill was named for him, hate crimes bill was named for him, but it's really a hoax that that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills," said Foxx. MORE .

Some people have made public claims that even the holocaust was a hoax. Should I expect anything less from people like Mrs. Foxx. Whom seems to think dispite the facts that the murdering of Matthew Shepard and what lead to his horrable fate was indeed a hate crime. It's quite clear that countless hate crimes today in the USA have made the news and many that still goes unreported.

What a witch! Last name Foxx suits her ignorant self. Should be a huge email campaign to her office with facts and figures. This really needs a huge pubicity push to show just how ignorant, hatefull, and manipulative these Repubs / Grand Obstruction Party, are. Where is Meghan McCain when we need her?????

What happened to Matthew Shepard was far from a hoax and to say it was about Robbery is perpetuating a lie.

Mrs. Foxx should be hauled out of the bar, beaten, then drove to some fence......tied up and left to suffer for a while.....then maybe she would understand 1/4 of what Matthew might have felt before he died......by the way.....I believe his wallet and money were still on his person.

It is people like Virgina Foxx that prevent laws from being enacted to protect everyday citizens.

How can anybody who for our government and know how law come into being be so full of hate that she would actual believe that a bill would come across her desk that bears the name of a man who was killed with comminting a crime. I am so glad she doesn't represent my state.

Actually it is Virginia Foxx perpetrating a Hoax when she is claiming to be a human being or representing the entirety of her constituency.

This bigoted woman will say anything for she is desperate not to get the bill passed. She apparently hates gays and feels Matthew Shepard deserved what he got. They should ask her about all the other gays that were indeed victims of anti-gay hate violence.

This is beyond the pale. Spinning lies over the grave of a murder victim. This is further explanation as to why the Republicans are not in power any longer.

I attended the University Of Wyoming in Laramie also, and what this stupid woman says s absolutely heinous and a disgrace !

Matthew Shepard's mom travels the country urging lawmakers to pass hate crimes legislation and I would like to see this stupid woman say this to Mrs. Shepard's face.

my thoughts exactly as i read the article on her statement... she'd probably deny the holocaust happened as well.

Wow, I didn't know robberies involved getting tied to a fence, beaten and left for dead. Fortunately people can see this hate speech for what it is.

Well, even if Matthew Shepard was not targeted for being gay, there are plenty of others who have been. Does it matter if Foxx is right or wrong, when she is just ignorant of the bigger problem.

That's the same thing I want to say. The Republicans hate gays and they get sadistic pleasure out of hearing of brutal hate crimes towards gays. That's Christianity for you.
