Romney steps away from Paul Ryan's Medicare cuts

There are 39 comments on the www.latimes.com story from Aug 15, 2012, titled Romney steps away from Paul Ryan's Medicare cuts. In it, www.latimes.com reports that:

Mitt Romney on Wednesday unequivocally disavowed more than $700 billion in Medicare spending cuts proposed by his new running mate, Rep.

In an interview on “CBS This Morning,” Romney was asked how he squared his running mate’s plan to cut spending on the popular healthcare program for the elderly with his criticism of President Obama for making the same reductions.

“First of all, Congressman Ryan has joined my campaign, and his campaign is my campaign now, and we’re on exactly the same page,” Romney said in response to anchor Anthony Mason’s question.

As usual, you have it backwards. Ryan's plan focuses on taking the Democrat built-in multi-billing, redundant, or unneeded services and other fraudulent practices by service providers out of the picture, giving more control to the individual recipients of care.
Good luck with that. Ryan's plan focuses on stealing from the poor to give to the rich.

Again you have it wrong. The "rich" in the issue are the providers... hospitals, doctors, etc. They were empowered by Democrats to run their scams and become "rich." This gave the Democrats a base for donations to their election campaigns, q.v. the millions of dollars Michele Obama received from medical providers in Chicago and parlayed to her Commie husband.

What is being stolen from the poor? If they are poor, what do they have to steal?

You have just described a major element of Obama's plan.

You really are confused.

The real villians in the present system are the FREELOADERS and the INSURERS, not the health professionals and hospitals.

Interesting point. Let me explain. Ryan's Medicare voucher plan would give seniors a fixed amount of money per year to take care of their own medical expenses. Some seniors would manage okay with that. But most seniors, who have small inccomes, and are prone to serious illness, would have medical expenses far exceeding the value of their vouchers. Thus, they would be left with often enormous and unaffordable out-of-pocket expenses, and at the mercy of the private insurers.
Under the Ryan plan, millions upon millions of seniors would be unable to pay for needed medical procedures, while the insurance companies and drug companies would make out fine, with the rich corporate heads becoming even richer.

But Lawrence, if they cannot afford to pay for healthcare, and go through their vouchers in a few months; shouldn't we just let them die, as VP candidate Ryan proposes?

Why should we not just put them away somewhere so that we cannot hear them crying and complaining as they die? Who wants to hear that?

The eskimo once put their elderly and sick onto ice flowes to drift away and freeze. Why can't we come up with a more proactive solution?
We could brick up many of the abandoned factories across the USA, and drop them in through holes in the roof. Problem solved.

And what is the democrats proposal to fix medicare?

You make a compelling argument. I think we both need to take a break and get some ice cream.

If you believe yan's Medicare proposal is better than Obama's, you don't want to fix Medicare, you want to destroy it.

Neither Romney nor Ryan ever approved of robbing Medicare to pay for Obamacare, but Obama did.

This all boils down to where you stand on liberty. On the one hand you don’t own your own life, you are a slave to someone else’s happiness and on the other hand we are free men described in the founding principles of this country.

I don’t have a moral requirement to subjugate my own interest in the service of others. You cannot live on the policy of give everything you have to the poor because they don’t have anything. I don’t want to sacrifice myself to other people happiness and at the same time I will not sacrifice other people for my own.

Who owns your life, you or the state ?
