It would seem that there might be an NGO that could adopt the ship.

With a budget surplus, it looks like the state could maintain this better.

I just thought it would be funny to take the oldest post available and bring it back to the top. It seem relavent now though since last month it was reported that the battle ship was sinking.

I was told by a park employee that the reason why it is no longer being maintained is to let it get back to the original habitat that it was during the Battle of San Jacinto.

Now when I was there last, after you cross over the bridge, that part of the park is being maintained.

Personally, I think the Battleship should be dry docked, or alternatively, dock it at the Cruise ship terminal and let the Port maintain it. They can have tours from there. The cruise ship terminal is not used for anything else and it cost $80 million or more. The cost to maintain an old battleship is pretty steep, but I am sure our good neighbor the Port would be able to swing it, since they can pay $50,000 to fight a $2000 ticket.

I think the goal is tto build a " dry birth" at the sight where it is now. They are in the engineering stages now.
