Some years ago I toured the Wilderness Battlefield and was astounded to find traces of trenches still in evidence. Many soldiers died in battle there and the ground should remain as close to it was as possible. A Walmart big box with its vast parking lot is not a good fit in that location. I wish Mr. Duvall good luck. I appreciate his endeavor to save the battlefield for us to remember what's there.

Good grief they can't find a better place to stick a Wal-Mart? The Civil War was a major event in American history. It's important to preserve surviving remnants of that event.

There's nothing of historical importance about a Wal-Mart except possibly the very first one that was built.

Sadly Wal-Mart will probably get what it wants. This country does not honor its history, it shuns it. Hopefully Mr Duvall will be able to make the powers that be see the light.

I agree with you Sarah. What is the Wal-Mart family thinking (or not thinking) of.

That battlefield serves two purposes:

(1) a monument of a bad time in American history
(2) a cemetery with remains (fully intact or body parts).

The Wal-Mart proposal seems to be insensitive and in very poor taste.

I am willing to bet that the Wal-Mart dimwit who identified the site had never been to or had never heard of the historical significance of this site.

Some people I will never understand.

Dang. This would be a possibly appropriate use of eminent domain.
