What about the white men who died for the freedom of your ancestors? Have some respect.

The Civil War wasn't fought over slavery it was fought over secession.
The Confederate States seceded in an attempt to disassociate themselves with the corrupt and domineering Federal government that had strayed away from abiding by the Constitution.
Southern secession was legal and peaceful for 8 months until Lincoln sent Federal troops to reoccupy South Carolina's Fort Sumpter. The Confederates drove them out and Lincoln made his bogus claim that an act of war was committed by South Carolina. It wasn't until 1863 that Lincoln changed the "reason" for the war from reuniting the country to abolishing slavery. This after Lincoln's lawyers had advised that secession was legal and so was not a legal or moral grounds for war. It was believed that abolishing slavery would cause slaves to claim their freedom and cease to work for their owners but they didn't. The north's attempt to end the war by freeing the slaves failed.
It's interesting that northern slaves were not included in Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. And yes, the north still had slaves in many states, including Maryland, Delaware, Kansas, Kentucky, West Virginia, and the US territories.
Very, very true.

To stand on a battlefield and realize that literally thousands of soldiers, both Union and Confederate, died there is a very sobering thought.

How many people do the battlefields employ? How historically significant is a Walmart?
You can debate this forever.
Why bother?
Win or lose, it is our responsibility to care!
Let's all who are reading this urge the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to demand that Wal-Mart cancel plans for a super-store to be built near the Wilderness Civil War Battlefield!!!

This is not the old Soviet Union where unpleasant history is simply writen out of the official memory.

I'm not sure if this poster is serious simply trying to get a rise out of someone.

On every Civil War battlefield we honor Federal soldiers trying to save the Union who ultimately freed the slaves along with the Confederates who fought for what they believed.

I'm proud of both, but if embittered libs only want to see the blue that's up to them.

Everything isn't always about your "blackman's slavery"...geez...If anyone is keeping slavery alive it's the people who are always throwing it in issues where it doesn't belong...
The funny thing is I'm guaranteeing you yourself is not a slave...

I'm white, but my ancestors DID NOT have slaves. Even if they did I refuse to have to listen to or pay for something that someone else did.

Anyways, get over yourself and YOUR color...

Oh and one last thing Obama 09, BARACK OBAMA is half WHITE...so your screen name and your "cause" are pretty contradicting. However, it does show your complete ignorance. You probably know absolutely NOTHING about Civil War history to begin with.
