The so-called "Wilderness Wal-Mart" in Orange County is catching grief from both North and South--and elected officials on both ends of the political spectrum.

Representative Ted Poe of Texas et.al.:
I understand you intend to weigh in on the proposed Wal-Mart in my county, Orange, Virginia. It will be built NEAR the National Park Service Wilderness battlefield.
I would appreciate it if you would butt out of our local affairs. I don't know if you are a business-oriented, conservative or not, but this is our business and none of yours. An overwhelming number of Orange County citizens want and need this Wal-Mart where it is planned to go. It is legal to have Wal-Mart build there. The store will not “hurt” the battlefield. The lying bullies that pretend to "love our Wilderness" have probably never set foot on our sacred grounds. I doubt any of you could actually come within 10 miles of FINDING our battlefield and monuments. I am a volunteer for the NPS, am a PATC trail overseer for part of the area where the Vermont monument exists to honor their brave men who fought here. I'm proud to say that their service is honored; the monument sight is lovingly cared for, and on display for all to see. In my humble opinion, Wal-Mart will enhance our ability to showcase the Wilderness battlefield including the sacrifice of all who fought here. So you all Vermonters and Texans come, admire their sacrifice and then go away. We don’t mess with Texas and we don't want you to mess with Orange County Virginia.

Well said, Mr. Johnson!
This is our (Orange County citizens) business and not the business of Texans and Vermonters. We do not presume to interfere in their affairs and would appreciate the same courtesy from them.
The Wilderness Battlefield, upon which my ancestors fought, is well cared for and an adequate memorial to their sacrifice as well as sufficiently preserved for students of history who wish to "feel the ground".
If Mr.Poe would care to see the battlefield and the Walmart site so as to be actually informed, I would be happy to personally conduct a tour.
