It is a disgrace that men who live in danger in order to protect this nation, its citizens and its laws are prosecuted for doing their duty. This people were knowingly committing an illegal act in this country. They tried to harm or kill a law officer doing his duty. He has the right to protect himself as well as uphold the law. He should be commended. Trust me this would not be understood in most of the countries around the world.

I grew up in the little town of Rocksprings where Gilmer is from. Our family lived right next door to his grandparents and my sisters and I grew up with his father, uncles and aunts. I don't personally know Gilmer but I do know that he comes from a very respectful family with strict family values. I attended his father/mothers wedding and I've known them all my life. I know that his mother Rosemary is a very sweet person and has lost a son and her husband already and I can only imagine the heartache she must be going through. Neither she or her daughter-in-law deserve to be going through this. It is a disgrace to all law enforcement and now it sends a message to the entire world that the U.S. is a place where illegals/terrorists can come to and get away with disgracing our laws. I wish nothing but the best for the Hernandez family and I will keep them in my prayers.

I believe that they are making a mistake with Gilmers case. He is innocent of any crime charged against him. My husband and I were close to Gilmer during our high school years. He is a sweet, caring, and loving person. Never none to drink, smoke,or anything like that. I pray to God that he is set free from all charges against him.

We passed through Rock Springs in late November 2007 and saw all the signs supporting the deputy. I made a note to check what they were about and finally done so today.

Do the good citizens need to put our prosecutors on a leash or just send them to a rehab center where they are taught the difference between good and bad people?

We had a couple of deputies brought up on civil rights charges because they roughed up a known drug dealer who threatened the son of one of the deputies. The deputies lost their jobs and one will probably do time. The dealer went back to dealing drugs.

Come on prosecuting attorneys, local, state and federal...you are supposed to prosecute the bad guys not persecute the good ones.
