Yesterday the House Judiciary committee declined to allow a proposal to eliminate one of many anachronisms in our legal immigration system the green card quota for unskilled workers. Though tiny, this category serves no legitimate economic purpose and now is frequently used fraudulently to allow otherwise unqualified people to get around our rules, enriching crooked visa brokers and, possibly, unscrupulous U.S. employers in the process. Only foreigners we should let in are those with useful technonlogical skills. Doctors, auto technicians, engineers etc.

How about we just do it ourselves? Increase classes in engineering, medical and technology based sciences. Have expectations of our kids, instead of buying them the newest electronics and McDonalds? It becomes a whole culture change which would be hard, but we could do it. We would need to revamp our educational system. Go back the the 3 R's, take the fluff courses out and put physical education back...

I've been saying that for years. We waste a fortune teaching kids useless liberal arts crapola like literature and archeology and philosophy. Schools should focus on subjects like math and computer science and engineering.

Yes indeed train our own. We should only be bringing in those where we can't train our own which should be a rare instance. The U.S. spends more money on education yet we are nowhere near the top in results.

But are you a LICENSED electrician in your State? If the State doesn't recognize you as a valid, licensed electrician, then you are nothing more than some person messing with wires, and anyone that hires you gets what they pay for.
