So, which Federal pay are we going to freeze ? Is it the pay of the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan? The doctors who work for the FDA of NIH? Perhaps the inspectors who check your food or drugs. How about the FBI and CIA agents that protect our country. Why don't we start with the farce that occupies the white house or the buffoons that run congress.

Federal employees get paid better than people doing the same work in private life.

Working for government is GOOD when the leadership is totally corrupt!

But they are better than you are, so it's worth it!

"Good enough for government work!"

First he borrows and spends us into oblivion. Then he forces through the most expensive expansion of government (6000 new IRS agents, a "ready reserve corp", and thousands more new gov't employees) in history with his "healthcare" (you know, the thing that was supposed to SAVE us money but is, in fact, costing us much MORE). Now he wants to freeze pay?

Watch the other hand. Don't trust what he says or does, and watch very closely what's going on with the other hand with this diversion going on. Obama can't be trusted. Ever.

As a Government employee, I don't live a lavish lifestyle. But for the good of the country, freeze my pay! It is called shared sacrifice during a war. Just like my parents and grandparents did in previous wars.

The proposed pay freeze will end at about the same time as Obama's in the oval office. Then its off to Kenya and his position with ACORN.

I am a government employee. I have a PhD in chemistry and design rapid testing protocols to spot contaminants and harmful bacteria in the food supply.

I have turned down job offers in the private sector that pay more than double what I make and that have better benefits (double the vacation, in one case.)

I have a lot of colleagues, doing the same type of work who make more than twice what I do.

I am not complaining. I chose to work for the government and I get a great deal of job satisfaction because I know I am keeping the food supply safe for my community, not just helping a company make more money. And I also don't mind a pay freeze--in this economy, it is totally understandable.

I mention all this just to point out that it is unfair to suggest that all government employees are overpaid compared to their private sector counterparts.

Why doesn't this clown reign in his own spending of federal money (our tax dollars)! He , his wife, and two kids, have turned out to be a huge drain on our money as they jetset around the world.
Obama needs to start cutting his own spending to give any validity to freezing federal pay.

In today's meeting with congressional leaders, Obama will continue to push for making permanent only cuts on those households earning less than $250,000 a year.

"We simply cannot afford to borrow $700 billion to extend the tax cuts of those who make a million or a billion dollars a year, or make in excess of $250,000 a year," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said.

For once, someone is making sense. Why are the postal workers exempt from the pay freeze? Also Congress already waived their cost of living increase for this year. They need to freeze it for next year too. In 2009 they got a $4750 increase. That should hold them for a few years.

2 million federal employees? Wow! And we wonder where all the money goes. They could cut 10-15% of that work force and never even notice. Our government needs to have their feet held to the fire. No more tax increases or pay raises until they justify what it is they are doing that actually serves the country and its citizens.

While I'm not deeply saddened that federal workers may see some effect from the state of the economy, the real issue with the government is the vast expansion of programs and hiring of more and more government bureaucrats. Obama is his socialist haze just doesn't get it at all.

A good start...now we need to either cut pay (not freeze) or reduce the number of jobs...or both

you sound like the mayors who threaten to cut police and fire protection if they don't get the LGA they want. No one buys that argument anymore. there is still FAT in all of these government budgets.

Federal Workers make chump change compared to Calif. State workers. The Devils Partnership between the Calif Dem Party and the pub emp unions has resulted in the highest pub emp pensions in World History......and a $300 BILLION totally unfunded Pension deficit for the State.

No matter how awful things get in your State your children are far better off than children who live under the "Partnership".

The military is exempt as always and shouldn't be especially the brass. Senator William Proxmire used to say they could wipe out an entire floor of the Pentagon and noone would miss them. That crowd really has the public bamboozled when in reality they have cushy bureaucratic jobs, many of questionable necessity.

Oh boy, we get to save billions???????? Try to putting a pay freeze and a salary cut-back of about half for all state and federal employees, politicians and the like????? Try firing half the do-nothing, spend-shrift, live-in-a-bubble, pork-spending politicians!!!! This is the same crap over and over again from Osama Hussein Obama. He wants people to think he doesn't know what he is doing when he is a purposeful, dangerous, socialist. Just a thought.
