Hoyer’s audacity

By Rick Manning
09/23/10

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) released a missive today attacking the Republican agenda with assertions that would make carnival barkers blush — digging at Republicans for, get this, not supporting small businesses and opposing paperwork-reduction measures. Combined with the standard outsourcing-of-jobs claim, Hoyer’s tired act is running thin across America.

For anyone not paying attention, here is the Pelosi/Hoyer/Reid record since they came to power in January 2007:

• The unemployment rate has gone from 4.6 percent in January 2007 to 9.6 percent in August 2010.

• More people are unemployed, with the numbers more than doubling, from 7 million in January 2007 to 14.9 million in August 2010.

• The federal budget deficit has exploded from what was an embarrassing $163 billion at the close of fiscal 2007 to an estimated $1.46 TRILLION for the fiscal year about to close on Sept. 30 — an increase of nine times.

• New monthly bankruptcies have risen from 57,240 in January 2007 to 127,028 in August 2010.

• Our national debt has ballooned from just over $9 trillion at the end of fiscal 2007 to almost $13.5 trillion in less than three years.

The Hoyer leadership record has wrecked the economy, and with it people’s lives. With more than twice as many unemployed for a much longer time, and a spending splurge that would make Paris Hilton gasp, now Hoyer has the audacity to call out Republican plans to restore fiscal sanity to our federal government.

Steny, who famously called himself a “tax, tax, spend, spend Democrat,” attacks Republican opposition to a targeted small-business lending program that plunges America further into debt while doing nothing to solve the underlying economic problems of the nation.

It is Hoyer and his cohorts on the Democratic side of the aisle who raised corporate taxes this past summer even though U.S. corporations already pay the second highest tax rate in the world. No wonder jobs are being exported; Uncle Sam’s hand is so deep in U.S. corporations’ pockets that the only logical choice is to export jobs. The right answer is for the U.S. corporate tax rate to be lowered across the board to make it profitable to create jobs here in the U.S. However, Steny would rather bloviate against the job creators in our nation than create an economic environment that puts Americans back to work.

Even more outrageously, Hoyer claimed to want to reduce the paperwork burden on small businesses. Small-business groups have begged Congress to fix the ObamaCare legislation that will require every small business to send 1099 forms to any business that they have either purchased or sold more than $600 worth of products or services to over the course of a year. Hoyer supported this requirement, which will create a blizzard of tens of millions of forms flying between businesses and into the IRS. Yet Hoyer claims to want to lower the paperwork burden?

And Hoyer would love for everyone to forget that Dingy Harry Reid imposed cloture and wouldn't allow ANY debate or vote on the budget before the Senate went on their vacation, even though he promised he wouldn't. Even Arlen Specter called Reid's tactics "tyrannical", turncoat that he is aside.

The Dems had all year to craft this, just like the tax laws, and as usual got nothing done. Now THEY are holding the country hostage, hoping to blame it on the Tea Party.

Democrats think everyone else is stupid- sorry, libs, but only you are. You are only fooling yourselves.

Hoyer is an embarrassment to the State of Maryland. Then again, so is Mikulski and our Governor.

If the Republican Party didn't abandon us during the mid-terms, we could have taken care of two out of three.

Both Parties suck.

The Fascist Right has decided to hold out on article X which strips funding for Planned Parenthood, eventhough NO federal funds can be used for abortions, and eventhough abortion consuling represents 2% of their time and expenditures on this subject.

This is NOT about the budget, it's about fascist right wing ideology geared at ginning up a "win" in the minds of their drooling sycophantic followers.

It's what the Rethuglicans choose to hold out for and indeed prefer shutting down government if they don't get their paper "victory."

They are frauds, felons, and need to be removed from office nationwide.

Obama:'I'd appreciate a little break'

Invites himself to lavish Vacation home overseas

By: Byron York
Chief Political Correspondent

It's often remarked that President Obama has enjoyed a number of getaways, vacations, and mini-vacations during his 20 months in office. But at a Democratic fundraiser Thursday night, the president said, "I'd appreciate a little break."

The fundraiser --$30,400 per person -- was at the home of Linda Douglass, the former CBS and ABC News reporter who joined the Obama White House to sell national health care to a skeptical public. Douglass is now a top executive at Atlantic Media, the Washington-based company that runs The Atlantic, National Journal, and other publications. Douglass' husband, John Phillips, is a wealthy lawyer.

According to the pool report, Obama thanked Phillips for the work he and his wife have done for Team Obama.

Then the president mentioned that Phillips and Douglass have an opulent place in Italy and wondered why there had been no invitation to visit. "I'd appreciate a little break and some Tuscan sun," the president said, according to the pool report. "Some pasta. I can use it."

If true, they would be caught. They can't blame the Republicans IF, at this moment in time, the Military is considered essential. IF they change the Military status just prior to, or during the point in time that Government appears to shut down, it will be obvious as to their intent.

If I were serving in the military and caught wind of this scheme, whether it gets passed or not, I would be furious with Gates and Obama for scheming against the interests of American soldiers.

Obummer is an idiot. Reid is an idiot. Hoyer is an idiot. Why are they idiots you might ask? Because they seem to think that all Americans are as stupid and thoughtless as those with Obummer bumper stickers on their cars.

What just kills me is how the MSM is portraying the democrats [Obummer, reid, pelosi] as being the 'good guys' when if they had really wanted to pass a budget, they could have done so back in September when the democrats controlled the WH, Senate AND the House! You should read OPM's website and how Obummer is trying so hard to keep the Republicans from putting millions of people out of work. Cry me a river!

In fact, democrats couls have passed a bill last September, like the law says congress is supposed to, that would have funded all the eugenics Planned Parenthood could have ever hoped for, all the hypocricy NPR could have ever spouted! But they didn't. How is that Republicans fault?

I guess, if they are non-essential, they have the right to abandon their posts, of course at their own expense, and head home. Should they be declared non-essential now, would that make them non-essential at any time? since the government will be breakiing their contract, and beleive me, the military is not an at will employer, does that mean we could have hundreds of thousands of service members become civilians due to breach of contract?

Obama: Man of the World – muslim prayer “prettiest sounds”

By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF
Published: March 6, 2007

In foreign policy as well, Mr. Obama would bring to the White House an important experience that most other candidates lack: he has actually lived abroad. He spent four years as a child in Indonesia and attended schools in the Indonesian language, which he still speaks.

“I was a little Jakarta street kid,” he said in a wide-ranging interview in his office (excerpts are on my blog, www.nytimes.com/ontheground ). He once got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school, but a president is less likely to stereotype Muslims as fanatics -- and more likely to be aware of their nationalism -- if he once studied the Koran with them.

Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

http://select.nytimes.com/2007/03/06/opinion/...

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php...

Ducking Christian events -- like the National Day of Prayer -- while speaking out about his Muslim heritage doesn’t help matters.

The President should be looking in the mirror if he’s seeking answers regarding misconceptions about his religion. Perhaps if Obama offered a modicum of outreach to Christians there wouldn’t be so much confusion surrounding his faith.

Dems won’t pass budget in 2010: Blame Obama's Debt Commission

06/21/10

House Democrats will not pass a budget blueprint in 2010, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) will confirm in a speech on Tuesday.

But Hoyer will vow to crack down on government spending, saying Democrats will enforce spending limits that are lower than what President Barack Obama has called for.

In the scheduled address to the progressive think tank The Third Way, Hoyer will acknowledge that the lower chamber will do things differently this election year.

“It isn’t possible to debate and pass a realistic, long-term budget until we’ve considered the bipartisan commission’s deficit-reduction plan, which is expected in December,” according to Hoyer’s prepared remarks that were provided to The Hill.

The House has never failed to pass an annual budget resolution since the current budget rules were put into place in 1974.

The House’s decision not to pursue a budget resolution comes as the Senate has been struggling to get its companion measure to the floor. And the politics of the moment are a far cry from last year, when the House and Senate easily passed Obama’s first budget on the president’s 100th day in office. The budget measure last year did not attract any GOP support.

While conservative Blue Dog Democrats have bristled at further measures to address the recession, Democratic leaders, including Hoyer, have tried to insert the short- versus long-term distinction into the public debate.

Republicans have capitalized on the public’s reluctance to embrace the nuanced argument, and have made the deficit a central part of their attack on the majority, and a key part of their pitch to be returned to power.

“We need a real budget to stop Washington Democrats’ out-of-control spending spree, which is scaring the hell out of the American people, and to create jobs,” Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), said last week.

Hoyer believes that a “spending-and-revenue” compromise is the only realistic option, and says that “on the spending side, we could and should consider a higher retirement age, or one pegged to lifespan.”
