I jus left my bank yesterday, Charter One (Owned by Citizens Bank) because I was charged 4 over draft fees that came to $124, the amount of my purchses was just around $48.00. I was even charged a $25 fee for $4.80. What disturbed me the most was that my bank was offering $220 of their own money to new customers, but wouldn't return even $50 of my own money to retain a customer that had been there for 5 years. They even checked my records and said I hadn't been overdrawn as far back as they could see. The laws need to be changed. I needed that $124 to make my bills, and everything will be delayed because I had to move to a new bank.

Why not just do it the old fashion way......without a debit card. Set up an account in a bank that has a branch in both towns. Go in or through the drive through to make your transactions. After a while they'll remember why they started using ATMs to save on paying for tellers.

Regardless of date or time, the largest debit is deducted first on any given posting date. This action ensures that most, if not all, debits will be flagged with insufficient funds and be charged a substancial fee (+/-$38). Don't forget the $7, or so, daily charge for having a negative balance.

In most cases if the larger debit was deducted last, a good portion of the transactions would not accrue a fee for lack of funds. But, the bank does not make as much money that way so they manipulate the balance for their greatest benefit.

Another fee I have disputed (and often remind the tellers) is the check cashing fee which is deducted from the payee because he/she is not a customer of their bank. It is not fair to charge a fee on a person, when they cash a check at a bank where the funds are deposited, due to being a non-customer. The banks call it a "convenience fee"... I call it discrimination for prifit.
