Forget the high speed rail, we can't afford to support a system that costs so much to the benefit of a few.
We need passenger trains and yes we can AFFORD IT! With rising gas prices and Ohio continues with a car and highway policy, only will cripple this state! Business now is planning their economics around passenger trains and high speed rail! Actually the trains are cheaper to maintain, and the jobs they create are high paying and cannot be outsourced! I am excited about these trains finally I can have a glass of beer or wine on the train resturant and not worry about the getting an ovi!

Passenger trains to what? Sounds to me like you just want to drink and ride.

PS How the the people of Vinton County benefit from trains? How would the folks of Athens County benefit from trains? You see where I'm going with this?

I live in the country. I rode on passenger trains in the late 50's and early 60's. You talk about jobs and benefits. Sure some construction jobs will be created and will last till built. Then some jobs maintaining and operating the system. The ridership would never be able to support the cost of operation. I would have to contribute to support a train I would never ride. Don't you think if it could be done with a profit, someone in the private sector would already be doing it. The trains won't help Ohio and will end up being a bike path.

With gas prices rising Ohio had better get onboard with these trains! Howard you must be a senior citizen, hopefully you are the lucky one who can still drive and not have much health issues. Alot of Seniors are NOT able to drive or they are only able to drive during the day. How sad that these seniors have no other option except for a car and highway to go anywhere. These seniors are missing out seeing their love ones or friends from other towns ot cities! These trains would be great for seniors citizens!

Karon, you must be very young. Passenger trains went out of business a long time ago. Amtrak survives on heavy subsidies. 95% of ohio will be ignored by the trains. They won't have access, but that doesn't deter folks from wanting to take their money to support project other people want. You can have your trains, but let the users fund it.
