Isn't it amazing that USEPA is investigating something that it caused in its own published rules? If you read the Federal Register, 40CFR part 261, you'll see that EPA has specifically exempted the Blue Chromium Sulfate from the Hazardous Waste Rules, i.e: It is NON Hazardous !!! Although all the facts specify that it contains the Carcinogenic Hex Chrome (Cr +6).
Why blame the tannery? Go for the USEPA, but stop: EPA is immune from prosecution... by law/!*^ This is a smoke screen when EPA investigates, it allowed the tanneries to dispose of the Blue Chrome that also has residues of Sulfide for dehairing as NON HAZARDOUS waste (ie: Garbage) which can be recycled, reused or just goes to a garbage landfill in spite the fact that other chromium wastes are characterized as hazardous wastes (D007) at concentrations exceeding 5 parts per million or simply containing 0.000005grams of leachable Chromium 6 (hex chrome). Why are we surprised if the government condones this disposal? |
