There has many millionaires say they should be taxed more. At least until the economy has fully recovered and the debt is paid down to a lower level.

looking at the historical tax rates, it's easy to see that what needs to be done, needs to be done.

who do these politicians think they are protecting?

Are you suggesting doubling the rates on the poorest to get them back like they used to be at 20%??? When times were good?

You're cold hearted.

Tony,
"There has many millionaires say they should be taxed more."

One solution, one problem;
Those who wish to, can, no need for congressional approval.

Once the "official" taxing begins, it won't stop and it will include all taxpayers.

You must not pay taxes or you believe that the government will only tax the rich. If you pay any tax now, you are in for a pleasant surprise! You are now rich!

Oh, and you will be taxed until you are no longer rich.

Their tax rate may be 35% but they only pay around 18% after they receive loopholes, tax credit, and tax deductions.

anneutral,
The tables are interesting, but don't tell the whole story.

Deductions are a key element in who pays how much tax. Try to imagine paying 91% tax on your income. Very few, if any did. Just think about paying $9 out of every $10. There is no way America could survive anything as onerous as that. Today GE and Proctor and Gamble pay no tax, and would not have in the past.

Then there is the simple issue of why A should pay less tax than B.

Many millionaire have said on several networks in interviews that they should pay more taxes.
If there were a majority of them that want to be taxed more maybe congress should do it. That would be them and congress decision. The 35% tax rate is not what they pay after loopholes, tax deductions, and tax credits it is much less. So maybe just eliminate the loopholes, credit, and deduction and not raise taxes.
I agree with you once the taxing begins it will never end and probably increase.
A tax reform would be much better with more fair tax codes.

It is my understanding that one can opt to pay more in federal income tax by simply exercising this option on the standard form. Hordes of millionaires descending upon the capital begging for higher taxes was either fueled by alcohol or a sudden case of mass hysteria. Call it what you will...photo op, window dressing, hypocrisy. If these people were all that altruistic, they could make, and could have been making extra payments for years. As the old expression goes, "Put your money where your mouth is." Write a generous check to the treasury department which you can rest assured will be wasted, and stop talking about it.

Tony,
I agree the tax code needs to be replaced.

Rich or poor everybody needs to contribute something. We all need to be invested in America. Time to end the greed at both top and bottom.

Establishing a mandatory budget, one with penalties for the entire congress, no budget no pay. The budget must be balanced and can't increase more than the cost of living allotted to SS.

Simple math, simple consequences, simple solutions.

Filibusters, simple, each side gets x number per session, no riders on bills, no unrelated amendments, each side can only put forth one bill per representative. Simple.

If our soldiers can give their lives for our country and our freedoms, then why cant a few millionaires help bail the country out in a time of need?? Its not like they are giving up their lives like our soldiers do.....its only money and they cant take that with them when they die.

katn,
The same could be said for all of us. The soldiers protect all of us, not just the wealthy.

Plus, how do soldiers lives have anything to due with tax revenues, government spending or our current situation?

No one was stopping these people if they wanted to pay more. Did you not wonder why they didn't?
Even Obama, who talks (and talks and talks) about paying your "fair share" didn't. His "fair share" would have been 35%, he paid 26%.

As always, talk is cheap, and, it appears, so are those who are doing the talking!

A tax increase on the rich, in relation to the debt you speak of, would be the equivalent of a 85lb. anorexic woman gaining a pound and declaring she is now healthy. There aren't enough rich people to make up the trillions we are now in the red. And professional politicians, on both sides of the aisle, cannot and should not be trusted with MORE tax revenue unless they are committed to corresponding cuts in spending. And we know that they will never do that.

I would gladly pay 50% in taxes if I was given an obscene $5 million in bonuses like some of the other millionaires. It's great to see there are level headed 1%-ers like these who see that we have a humongous debt that needs to be paid down and one of the the biggest cause of that debt has been the Bush GOP Tax cuts.

It's a joke. Income tax is tax levied on income. None of these clowns punches a clock. They make money from investments, capital gains, stock funds, mini bonds, dividends and funds given to them by Obama. None of that is taxable income.

The last joke was Gates and some of his Billionaires were talking about giving 1/2 to the government. Let's see, if he gives half, he has to live on 13 billion, if I have to give half, I'm homeless, if the poor are asked to give half, they give nothing.

Real funny jokes
