"A 4-year-old was forced to dump her packed lunch and eat a state-dictated cafeteria lunch of chicken nuggets." Why blame the Fed if it's a "state-dictated" program? And the article also says it wasn't a state mandate to do what the teacher did. Article says it was a teacher who made the mistake? So where is the "Federal Overreach"? Just asking.

It got to start somewhere. Exercise and diet are the only weapons we got against contaminated food supply and water, pollution, bad DNA, and an immense attack from the salt-loaded, sugar-loaded, unsaturated fat-loaded, cholesterol-loaded and preservative-loaded convenience food chains and vendors (Frito Lay, PG, etc.). If we teach and force the hand of the young, it will pay off in the long run. The young will eventually eat and do the right thing to keep off obesity, diabetes, enlarged heart, plaque build, lost of muscle, embrittled bones, loss of vision, etc. All that cost money to fight so if I were the Republicans (they are supposed to be money conscious)I'll be pushing for disciplined habit and behavior that includes culinary habits. If the Republican care about a healthy citizenry, this is a just cause. But instead the Republicans are pushing an idea that cuts the US in many ways and that is the pursuit of happiness (the freedom to do what you please) and that includes drugs, prostitution, homosexuality, indulgence, greed, environmental abuse, etc. Anything that I damn please!

IF,as the article states, the teacher made a mistake then there should be some sort of disciplinary action taken to insure an example is made. A letter of reprimand or a week of suspension without pay-something. Her "mistake" not only distressed a small child and outraged her parents. It subjected the school district to National exposure as being administered by overbearing Gov't lackeys and embarressing the school system in general.

So a turkey on wheat bread is not as good as chicken nuggets. The child also had a banana and apple juice. What is so bad about that? The nuggets were worse. Soy wrapped around fried bread. Most of us are smart enough not to send junk. Well maybe not you, since you agree. Obama is becoming more of a Dictator every day. If Obama really wanted people to eat healthy, all the food would be organic-regular food has all kinds of chemicals, and pesticides in it. That is what causes diseases-our immune systems are to weak to fight the germs off.

Let me guess..... You're one of those liberals who want to tell others how YOU believe THEY should live. What to eat, drink, wear. Where to work. What to drive. While you sit on your azz eating Doritos and hot wings swilling Bud Lite and playing on the computer.

You are using this single case to extrapolate and camouflage the bigger problem of vending machines in schools or the left overs set aside for school cafeterias or the greasy lunches offered at Louisiana high schools or those power/energy drinks now available in middle and high schools in Georgia. Save your breadth, be more analytical, be more global, and stop politicizing any deviation or situation for your political cause. The well being of our children is above every freaking crap you and your family or your co-workers or your affiliations can think of! There are things where democracy does not do well and the heavy hand does the trick. We want results! It is more important that the pathway!

Just another example that we're turning into a Nanny state. Sad that so called Federal guidelines cause a school to tell a parent what they can and can not feed their children. Guess next they'll shut our lights off at 8PM to ensure we get our proper sleep or ban sunlight for more then 20 minutes a day.

We don't need or WANT the government meddling in every aspect of our lives. If you want some type of socialist utopia I'd advise you to find another country, say like China, to live in because Americans are waking up and it's not going to happen here!

This story has nothing to do with the Fed. The article states the teacher overreached. Even the State rules didn't require the teacher to do what was done. I'm out. Enjoy!

okimar wrote: <quoted text>Pay MY medical bills??? I'm most likely subsidizing thru my tax $$$ your SSI disability and food stamps. All of us pay to SS and Medicare! Those were put in the 1930's and 1960's to rescue the old, the sick, the abandoned, the misfortune, the young, the disabled, and the victims of accidents that wipe out families. Originally SS was put to relieve the massive poverty from the 1929 crash that was fueling the procomunists in the US and that poverty was giving the Soviets propaganda material to export their values so we countered with pseudosocialism to remove that threat. But then medical costs started to rise and the 1920's generation was retiring so then came more subsidy (Medicare-aid). you know the history of subsidies in the US so you need not to be lectured on it. But it is time to scrutinize the culinary behavior of our children and guide them to be healthy and productive citizens. It is the least we can do for them!!

I am all for taking out coke or candy machines. I do not think it is their right to go thru a child's lunch from home. Especially when that lunch was healthier than chik-nuggets. We need the kids to exercise and run around and play games-but somehow they're not politically correct anymore. I don't know what "cause" your'e talking about. If you haven't enough sence not to eat grease-but you need to be told-then I feel sorry for you.

The US is not longer the land of the Free. Your Patriot act, your economic behavior (income tax forms), your culinary behavior (laser scanners at the supermarket), your traveling behavior (ticket planes and TV cameras videotaping your moves anywhere you drive), etc. YOU ARE BEING SCRUTINIZED MORE THAN EVER AND PERHAPS MORE THAN IF YOU WERE IN ISRAEL OR IRAN! Even the net and phones (all communications) are being screened by a computer seeking keywords and flagging them up for further inspection. The level of intrusion in the US surpasses that of many other countries so before you are start pumping your chest, think and pause it is embarrassing to make proclammation such as the one you just made!

No State or Federal law says a student has to eat the school lunch and cannot eat a lunch provided by the parents. Get a grip. Do you have such rules in your community? You can give your kid a bag full of marshmellows everyday and the most a teacher can do is report it as child abuse to be investigated by child services. But no school jurisdiction can demand parents can't feed their kids if they want to. And if you allow such in your community, its has to because the voters of that jurisdiction voted for such a rule. The Feds have no say in what you feed your kids for lunch. Amazing what some of you will believe. Stay informed.

Does anyone here live in a state that does not allow you to pack your kids school lunch?
Anyone? Anyone?
