Pessimists are bemoaning the end of U.S. human spaceflight, but optimists see the next few years as a transition to a new paradigm that will energize commercial ventures and get astronauts beyond Earth orbit for the first time since the Nixon administration.

space program will thrive if you have a strong national leadership. his willingness to compromise on just about everything shows obama's weakness even if he's a good guy.

why not do space program open-source way: distributed projects, crowdsourcing? nasa acts only as coordinator/project manager. i believe science should not be confined in ivory tower, and be made open even to the wildest amateur speculation.
