Report from a bird watching the hens' house: "It looked to me like the head fox (Hoekstra) had a nice lunch with another fox (the banker), then they fed the hens (taxpayers) a lot of garbage, fattened their options, then went for over-kill."
People, we need a full investigation into what really swayed Hoekstra's bail out vote. I called Hoekstra's office twice prior to the vote -- even the morning of the vote. His staff said the majority of callers opposed the bail out and Hoekstra would NOT support it. I was speechless and stunned while watching the bail out vote being broadcast on cable -- especially when Hoekstra changed his vote to support the bail out!!! I immediately called Hoekstra's office and asked "WHY!?!?!?." They said Hoekstra had lunch with a banker who threatened to pull loans from the area if Hoekstra did not support the bail out. They also said he had lunch with a small business owner who claimed he could not get a loan to make payroll (can't make payroll; can't get a loan; do I smell deeper problems with that company???) and would cut jobs if Hoekstra did not support the bail out. The lady said those two votes outweighed my one vote (remember that when you think your vote does not count!) I asked when Hoekstra and his staff would go back to the banker and businessman to verify they did not stop the flow of loans or cut jobs anyway -- the reply was "We couldn't do that!!!" When I asked for their names (so I could ascertain they did not cut loans and jobs anyway), of course, that info cannot be released. How convenient. Now, for Hoekstra to play dumb or surprised about where the bail out money is going -- GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! But, why did I expect better from the man who is behind Blackwater with all its scandals? Or whom Wikipedia reminds us was Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Intelligence and created national headlines by announcing the "weapons of mass destruction" claim -- that has become the center of major controversy and national security. Not only is he not held accountable, he plays dumb now and rumor has it he may run for governor. Not buying into this at all, Mr. Hoekstra. Save the games. You helped break it -- fix it or own it. I encourage each of you to call Hoekstra and ask: What exactly will you do to hold the banks accountable and fix this mess you helped create (by supporting the bail out -- before identifying what was really needed or by whom)????? And when will that action take place? Meanwhile, you want me to vote for you?
