You must be driving with your eyes closed. Early spring you could see numerous anounts of road kill turtles along the side of the road. I drive this route from Whitehall to Muskegon for 3rd shift and could see the roadkill in the dark. They are a traffic hazzard but I think they could have found a cheaper fence at Home Depot.
From the looks of it, the fence is plenty cheap enough. Someone is going to end up with 200k or more extra cash in their account courtesy of the taxpayer. I wish I could follow the money on this one......

318,000 for 1.8 miles of 4' chain link fence, yeah right....

When the almighty dollar becomes so important that we will destroy life for it we are in a sad situation. Today the turtles, tomorrow man.
Hoekstra is a typical "Don't Care Republican".
Try making Michigan a little better Pete, work on something that will make a difference.

Can the turtles help build it? They will get it done faster than anyone awarded the contract to do it.

Good one - they are probably the minority contractor that is receiving over $300,000 to build two miles of fence.(Bonus points that gives them the lowest bid - wink wink).

We should have a turtle hunt in Muskegon County to thin the herd and generate the revenue for the state. Soup is good!

$318,000.00 is a very small amount of money to pay in order to save one life possible more, that might be saved by the turtle fence, everyone needs to look at the safety of the drivers of this area and take this into account before they criticzing the state in spending this kind of money.
Are you kidding me! I have driven that stretch of road for more than 15 years and I don't think I have ever seen a dead turtle. How can we continue to have BUDGET problems and press releases talking about government shut down but yet we can put up a $318,000 fence for turtles.
