Rep. Paul Broun Ignores Stats, Claims Public Option for Health Care "Is Gonna Kill People"

There are 174 comments on the snafu-ed.blogspot.com story from Jul 11, 2009, titled Rep. Paul Broun Ignores Stats, Claims Public Option for Health Care "Is Gonna Kill People". In it, snafu-ed.blogspot.com reports that:

In a speech on the House floor Friday afternoon, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) attacked the idea of a public health care plan, saying “this program of ‘government option’ is being touted as being the panacea, the savior of allowing people to have quality health care at an affordable price is gonna kill people.” He used Canada and the United Kingdom as examples against the public option, claiming that those countries “don’t have the appreciation of life as we do in our society.” What is typical of politicians and many Americans who use such arguments, is that they don't do any homework.

Oh, and doesn't Broun have, ahem, publicly funded healthcare of his own?

Statistically, both Canada and the U.K. have longer lifespans and lower infant mortality rates than ours.

If publicly funded health care is good enough for Rep Paul Broun, it's good for all Americans! Give us all what he gets.

The health care plan that Congress gets is not the plan we will get.

or have you already forgotten that Congress EXEMPTED themselves from the plan they intend for US.

Of course you have - doesn't play well with you whole "if it's good for them, good for us" crap.

BTW - tell my daughter, who's married to a Canadian, has been living in Canada for more than two years now, both working - how great the canadian health care is. She's stuck to a wheel chair for the past year or so because they won't approve the surgery and treatment she needs.

The reason? The cost to do it is more than what she will contribute in her current career and expected lifespan through taxes.

Yeah - free public healthcare is never free. Someone pays for it in the end. My daughter is.

Funny, it is always the failed policies of the right that kill Americans: 9-11, Katrina aftermath, Iraq war, etc.

Tell your daughter to come back to the U.S. say her last name is Sanchez or La Roza and she will get the best medical treatment for free. Taxpayers will foot the bill. California is still open for business I hear.

Oh - and lets not forget

The KKK (thanks Dems!), Jim Crow Laws, creating the Federal Reserve, the failed League of Nations, the creation of the United Nations and put a Soviet spy and traitor in as it's first Secretary general (Alger Hiss), etc etc

The UN - the global body of peace. 180+ wars, skirmishes, police actions, and genocides since 1949, 75% of them initiated or protracted by the UN.

Way to DEMS!

Sorry about your daughter. But. You don't put forward any logical or reasonable alternatives to the health care crisis facing this nation. And for every example like your daughter there are dozens of similar or worse stories here in the US involving people with no health care coverage at all, including people that have lost coverage due to unemployment, people that have lost coverage due to benefits cuts, people that have lost coverage due to pre-existing conditions or concurrent conditions, etc. Enough with the backbiting and political pissing matches - we need a few more people working ON the problem, instead of pointing finger ABOUT the problem. It's time for some sort of plan that provides basic health care coverage for all US citizens currently with none, that still allows for those that can pay for premium services or that care to select private options to do so. Enough. It's time.

What was the failed policy related to 9-11? The Katrina aftermath was caused by the failure of the pollicies of the Democrat state government and the Democrat city government. The Iraq war was bipartisan and, on balance, saved American lives.

If socialized medicine is going to spend less, why are the Democrats planning a tax increase to pay for it?

There are dozens of alternative ways to go other than government funded national healthcare

I have presented a couple different paths in various articles on here over the past several months.

The left "Poo poo's" them because it isn't what they want - which is our government taking care of everything.

Why don't YOU offer some possible alternatives than our incomes being taxed to crap to cover a plan that will further destroy our economic base.

It's morally wrong to leave 100 million Americans un or underinsured, 1 illness away from financial ruin. And it's wrong to burden small business with the outrageous insurance costs also -- found a cool site; www.tinyurl.com/dgbjlz ; incredible satellite view of earth

Is anybody talking about single payer? Besides you?

Keep your plan if you like it. Augment it with a public option for those who don't have coverage today.

And you mistake me for somebody who approves of Congress exempting themselves from the laws they pass. They ought not do that.

Yeah, and they took us off the gold standard, they put us on Social Security & Medicare, and they gave all those undesirables standing with their Civil Rights Act and Voter Rights Act.

Next thing you know, them aliens elect Obama and they start moving here in droves, ruining the purity the Founders created.

By the way, the KKK & Jim Crow lovers pretty much left the Democratic party after LBJ passed the Civil Rights Act & Voters Rights Act. Byrd stayed, but most the rest were received with open arms by the likes of Nixon and Reagan.

Today, KKK types litter the GOP and places like the American Patriot Party.

You won't find ONE KKK person in the American Patriot Party Sh*t Splatter

It was the Republicans that pushed the Civil Rights Act against the wishes of the Democrats. You forget your history brain dead.

Taking us off the Gold Standard screwed this country moron.

Nice of you to show your true thoughts on the people in your party - I never thought of any race as undesirable - interesting you do.

It was the GOP that gave African Americans (the originals) the right to vote, which you Democrats created the KKK to keep from being permitted. The GOP had to push forward the Voters Rights Act because of the Democratic Party still fighting and rigging it so AA's couldn't pursue their rights to vote.

The Dems co-opted things by re-writing history and enslaving them in a new way - Welfare.

Way to go moron

it's actually quite simple.
smoking is a choice..tax the crap out of it.
drinking liquor is a choice...tax the crap out of it.
eating out is a choice...tax the crap out of it.

one of two things will happen...either we will be able to pay for health care improvements without having government in charge, or we will end up with healthier people who no longer smoke and drink, and who actually spend more time with their families at the dinner table...it's a win-win situation.
