What an absolute disgrace!!!!!!! We need to protest this decision and make Obama uncomfortable pandering to the energy lobby and southern politicians, this is a BAD decision and should be rescinded! It's time to fight for the environment and against greedy rich people- like mine and mine company owners!

If you oppose mining, please refrain from driving, unplug your refirgerator, don't use your cellular phone, don't use a home computer, and do not watch television. These use a lot of electricity.

If you keep using these things while trying to block the use of coal, you are a hypocrite. And tout your love of the environment as if unplugging your toaster will change things radically.

You may use these things again when wind power amply supplies our power needs at the same price.

I guess the better alternative is to send these poor guys down into mine shafts to dig out the coal.

Unless you have any cost-effective alternatives to using coal, let's at least try to keep the workers safe.

What about the greedy people making millions lobbying on behalf of alternative energy projects. It's time to track the money Al Gor ehas made from pandering fear without debating his critics.

At a recent hearing before the Energy Subcommittee, Gore refused to say how much money he has made in the energy credit trading business he has reinvested in alternative energy projects.

If you want to see greed, look at the people making money by offering fear and worthless unworkable alternative energy projects. Can you even define an "enerfy credit"? Just like a derivative, it's intangible and whatever each greedy energy credit trader deems it to be.

Before those of you whe supposedly love the environemnt more than those who safely and cleanly mine and burn coal, I beg of you to not drive, and refrain from the use of a refrigerator, phone, computer, and television. If you don't do these things, you are committing the same evil acts you want others to reduce.

Environmentally, what's the problem?

Take off a mountain top in W.Va and build one in the north end Hartford. Sounds like a fair trade to me. After all W.Va has so many mountains and Hartford has only 1, Mt. Trashmore.

After all aren't the liberals all about fairness?

Pete,

You wrote "greey rich people-like mine and mine company owners" why are you against profits, and making money? Profits provide jobs, which in turn keep our economy moving. Pete, do you drive a bike to work, do you only use solar power, you are on a computer so I assume you do enjoy using some energy. People who provide consumers with goods and services should do so for free?

Pete, what do you do for a living? If you are some 16 or 17 year old living in your parents home it's great that you are so concerned about the environment. It's pretty easy when your parents are taking care of all of your needs. Check back here when you are married, with kids, and have responsibilities. Pete, if you started a business would you want to get paid?

Being born and raised in WV, I can ASSURE you that these Mountain Top Removal mines DO NOT economically maintain the communities/counties they are located in or near. At best, each site employs only a handful of men as compared to the many, many men it takes to operate a traditional, deep, long-wall mine. When you hear these Mt Tope Removal mines are critical to the local economy you are being told lies - plain and simple. These operations are critical to the firms that operate them but no one else. It isn't a matter of obtaining the fuel which is at question here at all. It is the removal and devastation of COMPLETE mountain tops. Imagine if Avon Mt (so very small by comparison to the ones in question) was scalped and left with fields of grass atop it's stub. THe run-off from the mines filtering into the Farmington and CT rivers. Fish dying. Wells polluted, etc... THIS is what WV natives face. The VAST majority of WV citizens oppose this sort of mining. It is only the greedy coal companies and select politicians (who benefit from payoffs) that agree to this. Ask the WV Gov who ALSO opposses this sort of mining. He, like me and everyone else there have immediate families in the coal business........NONE OF THEM INVOLVED IN THIS SORT OF MINING. Obama sold out.

No, he is not. UMWA members, citizens and even the WV Gov. are opposed to this mining. THIS ISSUE isn't about money, unions or anything else. It's about saving the prestine forest and environment of the state.

If you could personally stand beneath these mountains, as the run off from the mines filters through the barriers and into the streams and rivers, you would smell the stinch of pure sulfer, see the coal silt thickening the water and suffocating the fish and so much more. Now, add to this that an ENTIRE mountain is destroyed completely - never to return - and you can see that this isn't a warm-fuzzy, typical "tree hugging" issue.

Think about it. From a state that elected GW Bush? Come on!!! As conservator as some of these people are, they oppose this sort of mining. WHY? It's NOT about union and money. It's about their homes.

Although the narrator in this clip is odd, look at the film to see how bad this really is. Especially pay attention mid-way to the end where the overall views are better:

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Look at this photo. Oay attention to scale. Compare the tractor trailers to the depth of the mountain top that was removed.

Coal is used to generate steam, which in turn is used to generate electricity. If you use electricity: you are part of the problem.

Stop using electricity and the mountain tops won't be scalped.

Problem solved.

What are the othe rbig industries in West Cirginia beside mining? Other than coal, what does WV contribute to the national economy? What do the people of WV apply their talents and skills to in order to sustain themselves outside of the coal industry?

Shall we forget about coal and just make those who want to stay in WV without contributing anything (labor or materials) welfare wards of the nation?

Logan, War, Daisy, Cabin Creek - you got some real fine well-educated folks there. Why haven't they found another way to get by other than coal or welfare? Given those choices, if you want to keep eating, you gotta contribute your coal. We shouldn't just have to drag you folks along because you don't want to leave the hills.

Why odn't you go visit a government housing project, union hall, or section 8 house to find some folks who agree with your hateful Democrat liberal views. Who is nastier and mouthier than a Democrat. If you disagree with a Democrat, you are a racist or a hater. Did the "hate the rich" party end early so you could be the first to post today.

Maybe the "kill your baby" abortion rally will provide you some more people to sign the latest petition to close some other company down. How about La Raza or the NAACP - your liberal KKK's.

I know you taped Ed Schultz and Keith Olbasman so you could find new insults against Republicans, because most Democrats can barely make it out of high school, or need a handout to get into community college.

Your liberal garbage gave us a housing mess where stupid people who make squat were given loans they couldn't afford because the Clintons wanted everyone to have a home - everyone who was of the Democrat voting pattern - low income, minority, unable to put together a down payment (sort of like the typical Obama sheep).

Now you idiots want to triple the cost of electricity because a guy who nearly flunked out of Harvard Divinity School, Al Gore, said so. You don't challenge his beliefs - just ahake your stupid little head up and down as Gore says the end is near.
Anyone who disagrees with or questions Gore is a "Hater" or a neanderthal. Keep shouting that and you Democrats feel you are really making your case. You refuse to argue and debate the facts. That would be too hard and reduce the amount of time you could be making more little babies after doing drugs in the club.

Do us a favor, dude. Why don't all you liberal fools who are so scared of global warming pledge to stop driving and using all the energy-consuming products you use. You pay the large sums of money for junk which won't work (all in the name of progress, you claim). Then when things are worse than before, you dolts say "We are trying", after accomplishing nothing but leaving a load of debt behind you while disabling the products which worked well before.

Stick you head in an Al Gore toilet. You will have to flush twice or three times to get yourself all the way down, but flushing three times certainly uses less water than flushing once - the liberals said so.

The only thing liberals care about is being able to get their foods stamps easily, make sure someone picks up their heating bill, getting governhment loans to pay fir their kids' college, and that they can kill their baby after a night of screwing with someone they just met.

Along with that, they heard Gore say "we must change" so they spring into action. Remember that phony picture an environmental group distrbbuted of a polar bear standing on a rock. It fooled you morons into a panic.
