Health care bill advances to House floor

Full story: TwinCities.com

The House of Representatives on Saturday passed, by a 220-215 vote, historic health-care-overhaul legislation that would require virtually all Americans to obtain health insurance and create a government-run health insurance plan to help them do so.

I listened to about an hour and a half of the discussions on this bill and was surprised at how many blatant lies and misinformation were being voiced. I thought that our elected representatives would conduct themselves in more professional manner. Some of them sounded like they didn't even bother to look at the bill yet still continued to spread misinformed statements.
I always thought that if you didn't agree with something, offer a solution, rather than just argue for argument sake. I hope the Senate has a more civilized session.

Dear Mr. Obama,
I work full time as does my wife, we'd probably be considered middle class. Since you've been in office things have gotten worse and appear to be getting worse yet. Why is that the less you need the government, the more you're punished? Why Does life get better for my neighbor Shameeka, you know the one that has 6 kids with 5 different dads, she hasn't worked a day in her life?
Last week I felt hope, by summer I should feel even more, by 2012 I'll be ready to party like it's 1999 ... again.
Ronald Reagan once said that in Americam, you have a right to succeed, you also have a right to fail, does that mean anything to you?

It never was. It was a hijacking the whole time. Our country is finished. Everyone should sue, the government can't force anyone to buy insurance from them.

God help us. Literally. Only He can save us from ourselves. This is the first step from being the greatest country in the world, to one of the many wrecked socialist countries who mistakenly thought giving up individual freedom would be a guarantee of having their basic needs met. If this gets signed into law we can never go back to our former glory. Hats off and God bless to those who have been trying us warn us. But the warnings are falling on deaf ears. You can't wake people up who would burn the flag and constitution to keep warm. This is not hyperbole. People are too uninformed and self absorbed to see and put together how seriously scary this is. We are all about to get the answer to the liberal question: What possibly could be worse than George W Bush? The answer is gonna hurt.

A list has to be made of any and all who voted for this absurdity. They dont even KNOW whats in it!!!! I have heard bits and pieces that this thing is LOADED with crap that has NOTHING to do with healthcare!! This is UTTER madness! I am all for MN Care etc. it is affordable yet bloated with government red tape and inefficiency. I am not for everyone else paying for all the Shameekas of the world. The other day I saw a minority walking with her two children, she being pregnant, the small children were struggling to keep up with her and she looked like she didint give a s!@t about those kids. Great. This is what the nanny state produces. It offends me that me, and my familys money is stolen from us by the government to support this endless propogation of useless citizens. This better not pass the senate, if it does the Dems will lose hugely in the coming elections. Obama will be voted out of office, replacing Peanuts Carter as the most incompetent person to ever be POTUS, and we can get this criminal bill repealed.

Over 2,000 pages... Over a trillion dollars... And Ms. Pelosi blocks "We the People" from reading it by refusing to post it. Between the way it was rammed through Congress and what's actually in the bill, this may indeed be the end of a once great nation. Count on Klobachev and Franken to support the senate version.

This is a great day for this country. Opening the door of Health Care reform will eventually benefit all Americans when the money grabbing, blood sucking insurance companies are knocked to the ground and no longer exist. How anyone outside of the insurance cartel can promote them, is strange indeed. We do not need insurance companies who make money by standing between us and our doctors, while buying their existence through our corrupt political system. Wake up morons, stop following the advise of million dollar radio entertainers and FOX NeWs, the entertainment program, whose commercials pay to spread their message of lies and deception.

I hear ya, but eff 'em. All they care about is who they can rip off to get a "free" stadium. Well over half the population is so stupid they've never heard of, let alone read about the history of the Roman Empire. I hope the whole military resigns, this country is no longer worth defending from outside threats. The collapse came from within.

Your post really doesn't seem to have a point. What is it that you MEAN?
There are millions of formerly hard working but now unemployed American who have to rely on the government right now to survive. There are also millions of hard working Americans who don't have health insurance who will finally be able to get if from the government.
And all of us will some day be relying on the government for Social Security and Medicare.
Don't pretend that you don't rely on the government. We all do. That's why we have one.
<quoted text>
Your affection for the term "rely on the government" is very telling.

There's a big difference between relying on the government as a way of life opposed to those working within the system that exists because we are forced to. The house bill that just passed is not needed and has nothing to do with providing quality healthcare for Americans. It has everything to do with making Americans "rely on government" more and more.

Klobachev! ROFL And you're right, this is the end of the US as we grew up in and read about in history books. But you just can't buck the tide when well over half of the population is so stupid they think they can get someone else to pay their way and they think it's "free". Oh well, if I so much as stub my toe, I'll go to their government doctor and bill 'em for thousands. And I won't be happy, so I'll go to the government lawyer and sue for millions. Don't be mad, just soak these stupid chumps for every dime they have, they finally got their way so eff 'em.

Every business in this country relies on government to exist.
If it was not for our government, our entire infrastructure would not exist. Why shouldn't PEOPLE have the right to representation the way that corporations do? EVERYTHING that happens in this country is the result of our government. To deny that is blissful ignorance.

Nope, I'm a liberal. And I'm going to apply for every government program I can get my hands on. Awesome they extended unemployment, I'll spend my days applying for all the welfare I can get in all its forms. Chumps like you can pay my way, chump.

These people are unbelievable. The vast majority of Americans do not want this bill yet they pass it anyway, guess they think we don't know what's good for ourselves.
