Looks like Dr. Mumpower's stand on immigration is getting Mr. Shuler on the stick, doesn't it?

Yep, gotta jump on that bandwagon. Now let's see about sealing the border.

Heath Shuler has always taken a tough stand on illegal immigration. I wish that we had more Representatives like Shuler that will work to protect our national security and the jobs of working families.

A lot of hot air....it will never pass because Shuler has little to no support in the house.

Word coming out of Sonopress today is that the Weaverville Sentinel reported that Sonopress or it's own temp agency got busted today (or recently) for hiring illegal immigrants. I haven't seen anything online from ACT or WLOS.
Anyone else heard anything about this?

What a joke Shuler is!
He doesn't have an original thought in his head.
His handlers must be as mentally challenged as he is to try to pull a stunt like this!
Not only is Dr. Mumpower way out front on this issue -- Charles Taylor led the nation in the fight to get illegal immigration laws enforced.
I also read today that Shuler is taking credit for another bill introduced by Taylor -- to rename the VA medical center. Does Shuler think we citizens of WNC are so stupid that we don't see through the way he is trying to take credit for legislation that was intoduced while he was still living in his home state of Tennessee? He is a disgrace to WNC!

Well, it also says that James Carville's polling agency is telling dems that "2/3 of Americans" are interested in border control, and that democrats are starting to realize their stand on the issue may cost them at the polls. I especially didn't understand why Hillary wanted to be seen as so pro-illegal aliens. She's alienated a lot of previous-democrats, I think, by putting down native-born Americans in a back-door way, too. Anyway, they will all do well in the end, since big business wants cheap labor. Maybe Spitzer, in NY, just wants out of politics. The money isn't really there, anyway.

Senator Clinton should be all in support of this (if it gets to the Senate). Her campaign claimed "Senator Clinton supports governors like Governor Spitzer who believe they need such a measure to deal with the crisis caused by this administration’s failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform”(10/31 The Caucus New York times Blog)

Gee, it was my understanding that Congress (House/Senate) had to pass the bill and send it to the President first. Which the Senate has failed to do.

Maybe she plans to write them and just pass them herself if she gets to be President...

Nah, that would make sense.

He's new and chances are this might not go far. But it's a start - and something that needs to be done.

Let us all hope it HAS happened. This company deserves to be a role model for what SHOULD happen when you choose to hire illegals for cheap labor. And supposedly have no clue they are there. Good grief.

And Native Mtn Boy, you are dead on!

At least someone is making a little noise about it. I thought my suggestion was just a tad bit obvious and a little too easy to merit much attention :)

Finally the Democrats are seeing the light. Illegal immigration is a blight upon the American worker and consumer. Twelve million to thirty eight million illegal aliens is not a small issue.

What it is, is a defacto invasion by Mexican Nationals, encourged by their home country and aided by some hispanic advocates and other misguided Quislings.

The cost of health care, penal care (that is locking them up for infractions of law) and social services depletes the funds for people who are entitled to live here by right of our constitution.

Particularly now since everything in our nation is tanking out because of these people and the stress on our system ... deport them.

We can take care of our own, but these people are not US, and have no right to be here.

Deport them!

If you feel the need to take advantage of the employers who hire them ... then get the folks on welfare (make them) move into the same positions.

Eliminate welfare altogether. No food stamps, no housing projects ... sink or swim.

Politicians will tell you that it's not as simple as that ... but it really is.

And the added plus, is that eliminating the Illegals not supposed to be here? You get rid of of mules in the drug trade.

Seems like a plus + plus to me.

Finally, a REAL comprehensive immigration reform bill. It may actually pass in congress once the dems begin to understand it isn't just conservative voters who are angry about unchecked illegal immigration. Of course, Dubya probably wouldn't sign it.

There are many guest worker programs already on the books that can supply all the workers American employers need. They just prefer the status quo. Time for them to work within the system like the rest of us.

P.S. I assume "1 in 20 U.S. workers are illegal immigrants" is a misprint??

This kinda sounds like John Kerry. He voted for the immigration bill that would have provided amnesty to the illegals and now he is wanting to vote against it. This proves that this one issue is going to cost them the election. They are getting nervous. The people need to keep speaking out. After all, they are working for us.
