And being able to use the word "God" (or, presumably, any synonym thereof) on a flag certificate will bring men and women home safely from the Middle East... how?
God didn't do that...bush did, and furthermore, God HAS brought a lot of men home safely.

Which "god" does he want referenced on these certificates, his or one of the many others?

Perhaps there is some misunderstanding on this subject? I am not in the full know about this but from what I've heard reported, mixed in with what I remember.
Is this not wording to a specific certificate for a specific person? And this specific person was giving this to a specific relative? And this specific person wanted God on this specific certificate?
Likewise, if another specific person were doing this and said specific person did not want God on their certificate, then it would not be there.
However, if this is about all certificates of this nature...then please, carry on.
You are quite correct. A personal statement to a relative. Anyone can dictate the wording to be used in their certificate. It's not an official government document.

That was clear in articles about this in other news sources. Not so clear in this AC-T piece.

IF ALL OF YOU PEOPLE KNEW JUST EXACTLY WHAT GOD HAS BROUGHT MY FAMILY THROUGH, YOU WOULD NEVER QUESTION HIS EXISTANCE AGAIN. NO ONE COULD HAVE BROUGHT US THROUGH EXCEPT HIM. I DON'T KNOW ANY HUMAN THAT CAN PERFORM MIRACLES, DO YOU?

Could you perhaps enlighten us sinner as to why your god chose some over others? Could it be that all of the casualties we've suffered were all bad men who deserved it?

I submit that be there an all powerful god pulling strings somewhere he must be blind drunk or worse, some sort of homicidal maniac who simply enjoys war, killing fine, pestilence and death. Other wise he is a sham of a god, more or less powerless to intervene in the perverted affairs of his alleged creations.

A phobia is an irrational fear of something thus it seems the real Godophobes are those who live in fear of his divine retribution. You can tell, that's doesn't include me.*^_^* My concept of god is far too huge to give two hoots what some silly old man says. In fact It has no human characteristics at all. What the heel give you god fearing types the notion that human kind represent the ultimate in intelligent design. We may discover that we're a bunch of primitives comparatively speaking. The image men have of their god suggests we are but one short step removed from the ancient Greeks and Romans and other pagan believers.

Exactly how many angels CAN dance on the head of a pin? Same answer as to the questions raised on this thread--It depends on your belief, right?

About now, I'm supposing someone just thought "Thinking about angels dancing the Can-Can is for pinheads."

Satyam: My concept of God does not fall into any of which you wrote in #49.

Reason-O: True. re Godophiles. and pinhead angels...falls into the category of "vain philosophies" for me, of which I have been advised to steer clear.

My use of Godophobes is primarily designed as those that get bent at the mention and/or thought of God. A it pertains to THIS thread and its topic. Why are the Godophobes concerned that the scout wanted God mentioned on the certificate that I believe is for his grandfather?

If the certificate was going from one gay to his partner and he wanted to mention something about gayness on the certificate, I am sure the Godophiles, as Reasonable has called them, would be as vocal, and as WRONG, as the Godophobes are in this thread.

The problem is that the divide widens...to the extent that now, when we have absolutely no place in a for or against argument, we get into it anyway. We being Godophobes and philes.

This particular incident should be a non-issue. Pelosi should not have tried to block what is basically a private communication, and Shula did the right thing by standing up for it. Its freedom of speech and religion all rolled into one.

So the first amendment is under attack in both of its topics, as much as the 2nd amendment is.

Regardless of the subject matter...this is not good.

The Bill of Rights has survived for over 200 years. I see no threat of repeal of any of them any times soon.

There's repeal...then there's ignore...

Then there is the dreaded interpretation...

The interpretation is the part that concerns me. At this juncture, no one would suggest repeal...but it is under attack as it stands...so I fall mostly on ignore.

Example: Ruch Limbaugh did not say anything close to soliders opposing the war being phony...but even if he did...what gives 41 senators the right to sign a letter and send it to his "boss" demanding apologies. Senators do not have any right to tell a private citizen what they can say.

The fact that this thread exists shows that there are those who don't want certain speech being proclaimed.

Acknowledgment of a religion, and establishing a religion, are two totally separate conditions, Yet the treatment is as though allowing a Christian to put God on a certificate is somehow establishing a religion.

Don Imus lost his job cause he said something that someone else didn't like. Jimmy the Greek long ago lost his job cause he said something someone didn't like. Rush retreated from ESPN cause he said something someone didn't like.

All of those examples are the private sector making decisions. 41 senators signing a letter because of something that never was said...don't tell me its not under atttack. It is, and the list goes onward...

The first amendment tells government not to establish a religion. But the interpretation as of late seems to consider aknowledgement and establishment as the same thing. It ain't

So no, there is no call to repeal. In the current climate, there's no need to...its easier just to ignore it.
