Obama visit to El Paso to focus on immigration

The nation of immigrants has a problem older than Ellis Island. Who should be allowed into America and who should not? President Obama will travel to El Paso on Tuesday to renew discussions about a national immigration policy - a conversation that almost always brings about confrontation. Full Story

To bring Ellis Island into the debate is ridiculous-it is a place of LEGAL immigration.
Hmmm--deportations of people who broke an American law of entering the country by illigal means should stop? You are not a "law abiding person" when you commit a criminal act with your first foot print onto American soil.

Yes, it is ridiculous to bring Ellis Island into the debate. Immigrants who came through Ellis Island had no immigration process whatsoever. Yes they paid their life savings for a boat ticket over, but after that, as long as they didn't have any communicable diseases they were in for good, no questions asked. Fast forward almost 100 years? Our immigration laws make it impossible for most to come here legally, hence the flood of illegal immigration.

I am an American citizen who has to live in Juarez because my country will not give my husband of 5 years a green card. He has no criminal record. He came to the US as a teenager because his family was impoverished, unable to find work or food. He worked long hours at a minimum wage job to feed his family, paid his taxes, the whole 9 yards. Now we are stuck here at the border, trying to do the "right" thing because he is not eligible to even apply for a green card until 2021. Yes I am a United States Citizen. Yes we are legally married. Interesting right? Moving further into Mexico away from the border crime is not an option because we have student loans in the US we are obligated to pay. The average salary in MX is less than $200 US a month... much less than just one of our student loan payments. And so we live on the border in fear.

This topic is much more complicated that most understand and it is a shame that more Americans are not more informed.

While serving this country, I learned to appreciate freedom; I learned of the different oppressions that humanity endures around this world also. What is so wrong with the USA becoming the brass ring?
It will take multiple policies to fix this, not just one.
First they need to document all non natural born citizens.
Citizens that come forward receive an Eighteen month immunity to apply for citizenship.
Immigrants that are not documented are deported, simple as that.
Children born here are US citizens. They need an infrastructure to be supportive and successful, grant their parents a green card while they are here and in school. If a child succeeds to an associate’s degree grant their mother and father citizenship as a reward for mentoring their child into a productive life, if that same child attains a Bachelors degree or higher grant their immediate family the same privilege.
Honestly, in a socialist state every person in the continental borders would be documented but were not that, people like to move around the country unimpeded. These policies should not affect current citizens. After they do this then can they say who belongs here and who does not.

I must admit that (as a legal immigrant to the US) I find the double standards on immigration interesting. Mot Americans believe there should be very strict regulations on those who can come into the country - and I have no problem with that. I went through a long and complex process to gain the legal right to come to the US.

However, I have met a number of Americans who have decided (for various reasons) that they would like to live elsewhere (either for a few years, or for retirement), and seem to be outraged that they require passports, visas, citizenship tests, etc, let alone face the prospect that they might actually not be allowed to move wherever they wish. The inherent assumption appears to be that any country in the world should be grateful to have Americans wanting to turn up in their country.

First we need to clarify the difference between a legal immigrant and an illegal alien. It's like the difference between being invited into someone's house or breaking in. Referring to an illegal as an immigrant is like referring to a bank robbery as a withdrawal.
Illegal is illegal. The only way to stop the current flow of illegals is to deport all existing illegals to demonstrate our resolve.

Thousands of High School students in every state have no idea they are illegal immigrants. Typically they find out when they want to get a job or a driver’s license that they do not have a social security number. They cannot work even when they reach the age that all their friends and classmates begin working and driving. They cannot join the military, and they have no recourse to become “legal” other than marriage with an American.
About half of all undocumented or “illegal” immigrants entered the country legally but overstayed their Visas. 58% are Mexican nationals and the new border security has made it much more difficult for people to cross our Mexican border. Ironically that has increased the likelihood that a Mexican in the United States will remain here undocumented rather than return home.

It’s highly controversial that the US government would not make trespassing on our lands a felony, which goes against our fundamental rights to defend America from enemies domestic and foreign. It’s equally questionable why E-Verify, Secure Communities, is not the law of the land? It's interesting point of view that Napolitano a Leftist, wants an overhaul of current immigration laws, even though the border is far from secure. Best defense is the placement of 4000 to 5000 National Guards personal to support the US Border agents, with full armed enforcement capabilities. Presently, business that hire foreign labor, never receive the hard penalties they deserve. US legislators should revisit this issue and introduce higher mandatory fines, and prison for more than three aliens employed. Business asset confiscation should go to a general fund, appropriated for ICE. When the Ronald Reagan 1986 Amnesty was enacted, that afterwards was NEVER enforced on reigning in on dishonest businesses, visa overstays.

To me shows further the governments disturbing inaction to control our border, no matter the consequences of the criminal invasion. The TEA PARTY is obdurate in upholding the 1986 Immigration Control and Reform Act and not trying to pass another law, to favor illegal aliens already here. Arizona brought this whole dilemma to the public eye, as Obama’s Liberal insiders didn’t like States usurping their power, under the Supremacy Clause of the U. S. Constitution. The bulk, but not all, state laws addressing immigration are preempted by federal regulation. However, the big problem regarding these laws, is what happens when the federal government, is not listening to the united voice of the people? Arizona has been especially picked out by this administration as a scapegoat, resenting the fact they are not doing their job at the border.

Daily I receive around 300 E-mails from people who read my commentaries from across the country, requesting even more information about the illegal alien situation. They seem to trust my opinion and facts, especially after visiting NumbersUSA web site. It might come a surprise to many that a considerable amount of these individual are from generations of legal Hispanics, who are very angry that they are suffering emotionally. That these people both naturalized citizens and permanent residents came here legally and jumped through immigration loopholes to follow the laws.

If you are of legal standing the TEA PARTY has a place for you. A TEA PARTY majority administration will invite highly skilled technical workers, who will not take advantage of the US entitlement safety net, but purge indigent foreigners who will turn into welfare charges. Businesses who hire illegal immigrants must be prosecuted to the full harshness the law. Find out more at NumbersUSA. Every prudent Taxpayer must take their Politicians to task whether federal or State, by calling their offices as soon as possible at Senate—202-224–3121/ House—202-225–3121 or locate these lawmakers in your phone directory blue pages. Cry us a river! My ex was also an illegal alien from Mexico. Stupid me got married, spent thousands of dollars trying to make it all legal and when the going got tough, took off for Mexico...less than 2 years of marriage and a son born.

And just like I did, you made a choice and you're stuck with it. That's life and the U.S. isn't responsible for making your life or my life 'fair'. It just is. You knew what the laws were before you got married, or you should have. If you didn't, then that's your look out.

There are laws set up to legally process in immigrants to the U.S. If someone decides that they shouldn't have to follow the process, then it's just too bad when reality bites.

So?

And, illegal aliens join the military all of the time. You really need to get your facts straight if you want anyone to take you seriously.

Illegal is illegal. The only way to stop the current flow of illegals is to deport all existing illegals to demonstrate our resolve.
And at the exact time of deportation of all illegals, stop all unemployment checks. Now prosecute all employers that employ anyone that does not a valid SS#. The govt. knows the names, addresses, of all workers and the govt. also knows who is utilizing invalid SS's. The govt. must be held accountable in providing this data to ICE. Deportation must include all anchor children. They are not citizens by law.

Maybe he should be talking about budget cuts to school districts. I would much rather have my children educated by good teachers than worrying about how ethical or unethical immigration is. I wonder when our country is going to grow some balls and stop helping or worrying about other countries. Mexico is laughing at how stupid the USA is cause they ask for money to fight the drug war and the US gives them millions. All they are doing is pocketing the money. Also didn't we learn now from Pakistan, we help them but yet they protect a terrorist. OBAMA worry about americans we have a crap load of problems.

Sounds like someone's a bit bitter towards their ex-husband... Just because he left you and your son doesn't mean every immigrant would do that same to their family.

And just so you know, before we married, I thought what the majority of Americans think: If you are a US Citizen and you marry someone from another country, they will be able to apply for a green card. Unfortunately too many BS marriages (just for papers) over the years screwed things up for the rest of us.

Back to the topic...so Barry Soetoro is coming to El Paso. Know what I wish? I wish that that the scum just across the border greet him with a few welcome shots from their rifles. Not hit him, just send some rounds into the surrounding buildings and over his head. Give him a wakeup call about what it's like to live in a border town that is under siege from our "southern neighbor". I suspect he won't be anywhere near where the shooting is on a daily basis.

All I am looking for is an American President that is for Americans. Our current President is totally out of touch with the American people. Americans are suffering in the midwest with floods and Hurricans, Yet he courts the latino vote in to supporting Illegal Aliens. I hope Black America is so proud of him. He is not Black nor White, he is all about himself. Are we as Americans better off? Think about it!
