Charlie Edgren: Attack on US agents changes the game

There are 18 comments on the El Paso Times story from Feb 18, 2011, titled Charlie Edgren: Attack on US agents changes the game. In it, El Paso Times reports that:

How will the Obama administration respond to the shootings of two Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Mexico? The Tuesday murder of one agent and the wounding of another puts the administration's feet to the fire as has no other incident so far in Mexico or along the border.

Really, Charlie, we lost Egypt? Turn off the FuxNews once in a while. You're beginning to sound like Glenn Beck.

Charlie is right.
But, I dont know why ANY US agents think that they are immune to getting shot in Mexico.
No one is going to ask for their passports before they shoot. This is the wild west in Mexico and I dont know why anyone travels there any more.
If ANYONE gets shot in Mexico, it is BECAUSE they are.... IN MEXICO.
Hello Hello.... you didnt read the travel warnings from the State Department?
When you are IN MEXICO you are in the line of fire. No one is going to spare you if you raise your hand or wave a white flag. No such thing.
They shoot first and dont ask questions later.
Is there more punishment for 10 murders than one murder?
See, they DONT CARE. The shooters have killed so many, there is not any punishment that fits the crime.

Shorter ChE: why can't we invade and occupy places we don't like, like my hero Dumbya?

At least ChE is smart enough not to bring up Reagan. Here's what St. Ronnie would do: CUT AND RUN, like he did after the embassy and Marine barracks bombings in Beirut. Or secretly arm both sides in a horrific war of attrition, as in Iran and Iraq (where do you think Saddam got all those WMDs in the first place?). Or fund terrorists disguised as freedom fighters in Central America? And as for game-changing murders of federal agents in Mexico, the current administration will surely take the same course as we did 25 years ago in the case of Enrique Camarena. So stop hitching up your manly shorts around your neck until the elastic band makes you red in the face, ChE. It just makes you look more ridiculous, if that's still possible.

Again Charlie's talking out of his rear end. This is one of the most inaccurate, sh"t stirring articles I've read in awhile. Way to go Charlie, great journalistic ethics and accuracy. Yeah right. You are the one who's skating on this one. Please immediately cancel my subscription to the Times or drop this big mouth buffoon writer.

Hey if you don't like the comments or Charlie for that matter you don't have to read his column or buy the paper.

I think that he is at times funny and a bit fanatical but taking in the source it ain't that bad. I think that we should seal the borders, stop paying millions to the Mexican government to fight the drug war, find and locate all cartel members and kill them in anyway possible from 35,000 feet. I don't think the Mexican military has anything that can counteract a squadron of bombers or cruise missiles. And to the Americans who cannot read the diplomatic warnings to get out of Mexico too bad. When you lie with snakes--------

good points james. you and jerome tilghman are on the same track and are right. the deadbeat dad abeytia thinks we have to ask mexico "permiso" first. that has been our tactic so far and mexico will never ask for our direct involvement because we would find out about all the upper level politicians who are in the "take" and we dont want to embarrass them. well now 2 american agents have been fired on. we dont need permission anymore. what's mexico gonna do ? tell us to take our billion dollars and shove it. i dont think so.

"Find and locate all cartel members... and kill them from 35,000 feet." Should we just use Google Earth for our bombsight?

I am sorry that the agent was killed but in that line of work in that place it is common. Why was the window down? Why don't ICE agents in Mexico get guns(at least a side arm)? The bad guys obviously have and use anything thay can get.
Mexico is a rundown, corrupt, God forsaken place that even Mexicans will admit to. With possibly one of the most corrupt governments in the Free world.
In place of The USA doing what is rite and correct in our war on drugs and terror, we do what is political with no foresight or wisdom.
Secure our southern border, with border patrol, FBI, ATF, DEA, local police, army, air force, and marines, treat all illegal entry into the USA with compassionate strength. Jail those transporting drugs for 10 years then return them to their country of origin. keep the drugs off the streets slow or stop the flow of money to Mexico's(the worlds) drug cartels save lives, money, and aggression by all those wishing to do us harm.

THe reason is the Mexican Federal government will not allow them to have any weapons. They get caught with them, they go to jail: a death sentence anyway.

Nothing will ever change. Mexico seems to have the U.S by its balls. Mexico will continue to dump its criminals into the U.S so that we taxpayers take care of their banished criminals. We Americans are sick of illegal Mexicans destroying our country. 11 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIEN MEXICANS IN AMERICA AS WE SPEAK. WHAT A CRYING SHAME.

Legalize it.
Control it.
Tax it.
Just like we've done with alcohol since 1933.
Take the profit out if the drug trade and the criminals will evaporate.

It's NOT Mexico's drug war, it's ours. Going after the cartels with force is just treating a symptom, while the underlying cause remains unchanged. Never a formula for success. The only way to put these murderous cartels out of business is to hit them where it really hurts -- financially. We can end this madness once and for all by eliminating the black market for drugs. Sadly, we are more concerned with punishing people for using drugs than actually preventing drug abuse. As long as certain drugs remain illegal, the violence will continue. Only a moron, or a politician, could see it any other way.

Once again another white dude with a big mouth talking crap. While most certainly not a racist he sounds like one. So the while people of Egypt are trying to implement a democratic government in Charlie's eyes they are like a cow who ran away. Somehow he believes that they used to belong to us. Mr. Edgren you need to stop and think about what you are stating. What Egyptians aren't white therefore they should belong to you? What is pathetic is that what is really behind this dumb statement is your hate of our president. Can't you rise above that? How many Americans died in Iraq because of the lies about weapons of mass destruction? One agent regretably dies in Mexico and you chicken little the sky is falling talk out of your rear. Is what really bothering you that white males are no longer able to tell everyone else what to do? Get a grip. I don't want to rule you. I am your equal (remember the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence).

We should be the ones writing the rules. We give them billions in money and equipment so if they like and depend on that aid they need to play by our rules. How long to they think they could keep their country if we pull our money, equipment, training, and aid? The country would be ruled by the cartels in about 10 minutes flat so if they want to lose their country keep screwing up keep placing restrictions on us. If they want to keep their country they play our game, or else its game over.
