Rangel is typical of our elected officials, they are single minded in gouging the system for all they can. They get a huge pension for life, even after only one term. They get the best health benefits. And then, as with Rangel, feal compelled to break the law if it gets in the way of fortune.

When they are done with Rangel, they need to go after Pelosi. She is pry more crooked even than Rangel!

Yes, the corrupt Rangel is in the spotlight and Obama is urging him to step down, to get off the stage. Next up, and put your hands together for, Yappy-Sappy Maxine Waters, also with ethics baggage.

You are sooo correct. Waters would be an easier target of corruption I'd bet.

Here's the deal. Rangel and Waters are getting old and they're the face of the party that the young radicals want to ditch. Anyway, they're going to be shuffling off this mortal coil soon enough and there are young hustlers ready to move into those positions. Powell wants Rangel's seat and I'm sure someone has their eye on Water's spot. These two (Waters and Rangel) have always been independent and cranky with anyone who needed functionaries to recite the script given them by The Leader--maybe their replacements will be more submissive. If not, theres always someone else waiting in the wings to step out on the stage who will know not to ad lib. This election is going to be disasterous anyway so why not take advantage of it and do a little housekeeping at the same time. Losing the House this year will give the Democrats a much needed excuse for their failures going into the 2012 contest.

"GOP gets wish:..."

"Associated Press writers Ann Sanner, Alex Brandon and David Martin contributed to this report."

After reading the headline and first paragraph of this item, I realized I was reading an opinion piece, not a hard news report.

As a registered Republican, I had no great desire to have Charlie Rangel, or any other of our legislators, Democrat or Republican, brought up on ethics charges. I really would have preferred that they be honest and not betray the trust the American people placed in them... just stay true to the oath they took.

As it is, Mr. Rangel, and it appears as if Maxine Waters too, chose to take his case to a public trial, just in time for the fall election campaigns. Republicans had nothing to do with his decision.

This "article" is just another case of the media, subtly slipping opinion into hard news... and they wonder why they are no longer respected.

OMGosh, the AP inserted bias? I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!(Immersed in sarcasm.)

The House Ethics Committee is the only House committee that's truly bi-partisan. It's always comprised of half D's and half R's. Rangel demanded this investigation. His antics dragged it out 21 months. The Investigatory Subcommittee found 13 different ethics violations and gave him many opportunities to quietly negotiate a plea. He refused. Now he subjects the nation, his party, his colleagues and himself to a public trial by the Adjudicatory Subcommittee. What an embarrassment. He will destroy whatever good reputation he once enjoyed.

Good. He's slime.
