Obama and Immigration

There are 39 comments on the www.americanthinker.com story from May 30, 2011, titled Obama and Immigration. In it, www.americanthinker.com reports that:

Earlier in May President Obama gave what was billed as an "immigration speech" in El Paso, Texas. What he said was factually misleading and politically motivated. He said nothing about the drug violence in Mexico, which is destabilizing the entire country and spilling over the border into the United States. Furthermore, his most misleading statement was "borders first, borders first, that's become the common refrain...we've answered those concerns." American Thinker interviewed those knowledgeable about border security and immigration reform to see if border security concerns no longer exist.

I certainly agree that the democrats can take their share of blame for their lack of providing any type of immigration bill and for their lack of securing the border.

But the reality is that the GOP is no different. I have not seen any action on their part to either secure the border or for any proposed legislation.

I find it hypocritical that we can somehow secure the border of South Korea a half a world away, but somehow cannot secure our own borders.
President Bush Signs Secure Fence Act

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Thanks. Please be seated. I'm pleased that you
all are here to witness the signature of the Secure Fence Act of 2006. This
bill will help protect the American people. This bill will make our borders
more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform.

Earlier this year, I addressed the nation from the Oval Office. I laid out
our strategy for immigration reform. Part of that strategy begins with
securing the border. Since I took office we have more than doubled funding
for border security -- from $4.6 billion in 2001 to $10.4 billion this year.
We've increased the number of Border Patrol agents from about 9,000 to more
than 12,000, and by the end of 2008, we will have doubled the number of
Border Patrol agents during my presidency.

We've deployed thousands of National Guard members to assist the Border
Patrol. We've upgraded technology at our borders. We've added
infrastructure, including new fencing and vehicle barriers. We're adding
thousands of new beds in our detention facilities so we can continue working
to end catch and release at our southern border. During the course of my
administration we have apprehended and sent home more 6 million people
entering our country illegally. And I thank the Border Patrol for their hard
work.

Obama's budget proposal cuts border fence funds

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's budget blueprint Thursday canceled
plans to extend the border fence along the U.S.-Mexico border beyond the 670
miles already completed or planned, symbolically breaking with a
much-heralded approach to border security advocated by President George W.
Bush.

The Obama administration's turnabout left limited funds for roads, lights
and so-called tactical infrastructure - but not a dime to extend the
pedestrian fencing and vehicle barriers erected along roughly one-third of
the nation's 1,947 mile border with Mexico.

Napolitano Doesn't Intend to Secure a Single Additional Mile of U.S.
Border-This Year or Next

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

( CNSNews.com )- Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano released a
budget document on Monday that indicates that the Department of Homeland
Security does not intend to put a single additional mile of the U.S. border
under "effective control" in either fiscal year 2011 or 2012.

According to Napolitano's budget plan, the Border Patrol had 1,007 miles of
the U.S. border under "effective control" at the end of fiscal year 2010,
and DHS aims to stick with exactly that number through this year and next.

Makes you look smart and logical.
Senators say DHS allows backdoor amnesty

A series of new internal rules has effectively created a possible backdoor
amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, Senate Republicans charged on
Tuesday in a letter demanding that Homeland Security Secretary Janet
Napolitano explain the new policies.

Ms. Napolitano has said her department is trying to focus resources on
illegal immigrants with long criminal records, but the letter, signed by all
seven Republicans on the committee that oversees immigration, said it
appears the administration instead is trying to carve out categories of
illegal immigrants that won't be deported at all.

White House Holds Private Meeting with More than 100 Special Interest
Amnesty Advocates

Just nine days after publicly reiterating his promise to grant amnesty to
the more than 12 million illegal aliens living in the United States (See
FAIR's Legislative Update, August 17, 2009), President Obama - along with
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano - held a closed-door meeting
with more than 100 amnesty advocates at the White House.

According to
statements from some of the attendees, Obama used the meeting to indicate
that he would "push for [amnesty] even as the health-care debate continues
to unfold." (Politico, August 20, 2009).

The private meeting was officially led by Secretary Napolitano, but the
president "dropped in" to address the gathering. According to amnesty
advocate Angela Kelley of the Center for American Progress, Obama's comments
reassured her that the administration is making amnesty a priority: "The
takeaway from today is they're rolling up their sleeves and leaning heavy
into the issue.

He's doing this and health care. He didn't give an inkling
that he's going to back away from immigration reform.

I think he's ready to
do the heavy lifting." (Id.).

ICE seeks surrender of illegal immigrants

DOVER - This week, non-criminal illegal immigrants in the state who have
been served a final order of removal may have an "avenue of relief,"
according to a Department of Homeland Security official.

Starting Monday and ending Thursday, tents set up outside an unmarked bus on
the back part of the Strafford County Superior Court parking lot serve as a
place illegal immigrants may go for a voluntary surrender.

Harold Ort, vice president of Public Affairs for DHS and Immigration Customs
Enforcement, said it's a "humanitarian effort" between Indonesian churches
throughout the state and DHS.

"It's a good program and it's really a humanitarian effort," he said. "The
whole purpose is bringing folks out of the shadows and saying listen, we'll
work with you. They're hiding in fear and we don't want that - no one wants
that."

Nothing will be done as long as you are still
living back in time. Get this, we are setting
here like idoits crabing about what was and use
to be, and we are giving our country away and
all our right. Sad, the country we all use to
love is now being given to illigals and we do
nothing but harp about yesterday. Thats
going to STOP what is happening RIGHT NOW, "ISN'T
IT"? Just stop and think, is it all being lost
because of WHAT we are NOT doing.

Once it gone, forget what we had and the freedom
and laws we had to protect us. WE WILL NEVER
HAVE IT AGAIN, UNDERSTAND, ITS LOST FOREVER.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO,,,,NOTHING! IT
took one election and one man for the USA to
be: NO MORE. Proud to be an American?
Stupid, it is NO More. Have I stressed this
enough for you to crap on me....What will it
cost YOU

Immigration Agency Ends Some Deportations

Immigration enforcement officials have started to cancel the deportations of
thousands of immigrants they have detained, a policy they said would pare
huge case backlogs in the immigration courts.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said the new approach was part
of a broad shift in priorities at the agency, to focus its efforts on
catching and deporting immigrants who have been convicted of crimes or pose
a national security threat.

I'm convinced. Thanks for posting that.

Oh wait, I forgot this is the real world where a punk coward is just a punk coward and deserves no excuse, just like Reagan was if he went along and signed blanket amnesty while not supporting it.

Then there's Dumbya administration, the superhero of illegal employers and border apologists.

earned the lowest public approval

In fact, it was the only
U.S. military intervention polled by Gallup that
received less than majority
approval from Americans.
