Sad Marty isn't running, but it's a win/win for Lowell either way, he's doing a great job at UML!

If he's never going to run, he should start donating away his huge campaign fund. Kind of a slap in the face of his supporters to just keep holding onto all that cash and not running for anything.

i can name about 800 faculty and staff from UML who are seriously depressed that he isn't leaving and taking all his HACK buddies that he recently hired with him

Why not name them, umasshole? Are you too busy focusing on bruised egos and not the progress going on @ UML? Are you too busy listening to whiners to not hear what students and professors say about their research? Are you too busy meeting with little minded people who can't think outta the box of a tenured, cushy job in this time of economic uncertainty? You know the Chancellor answers to the President and UMass board, right? Tenured profs answer to no one.

It's all good, umasshole. Give us your list.

A debate between Marty vs. Martha Coakley would have been a lot of fun to watch.

While it's a loss to the Senate, it's a win for UMass Lowell. Marty is really turning the University around.

"University of Massachusetts Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan said he will stay in school, pledging to remain at UML for the foreseeable future to take care of unfinished business." Interesting choice of words ... Marty doesn't have a good record of following through on his "pledges."

I've observed lots of Merrimack Valley politicians in the past 40 years. Most have been medocre. A handful have been hard-working, intelligent and honorable. And then there's Marty Meehan, the most self-serving fraud I have ever met. It's all about Marty, all the time. And don't forget that he's still sitting on almost $5 million in campaign funds, which he can sit on forever, and use for a Senate race in the future, once he is vested in the state retirement system. Meehan gives politics and public service a bad name.

Good Points!! Campaign finance reform should require candidates no longer in office to return these campaign fortunes back to the states these boys and girls are running from.

Good news for Massachusetts, bad news for U-Lowell. He must have decided that he still had more damage to do

While there are always a whiny, cynical minority at every college (and apparently you are one of them), everyone else can see that Marty Meehan has brought much-needed funding, local integration, energy, and imagination to UMass Lowell. The buildings were falling apart and the morale was low before he arrived, now he's restoring prestige to the school again.

Marty Meehan SHOULD stay and do the job he was hired to do. I am glad he made this call.
AS a former congressman I believe he has a HUGE stockpile of election funds saved up. That money could sure help the many charities struggling for funds in the Lowell area including: the transition center/homeless shelter, various food pantries, the Salvation Army and the Lowell Renaissance Club all do God's work.
Come on Mr. Meehan and please step up. Times are very tough...dip into your political stash of millions of dollars and help those in your community who are less fortunate.

The private poll I just saw reported that the overwhelming democratic respondents to the survey said they do not support Marty's potential candidacy. Reason-it's all about Marty, publicity hound and better quality candidates which quickly motivated the former Rep. who broke his term limits pledge to run away from this Senate idea. I heard

Marty is all about Marty. Have the kids wrecked the hotel yet ?

God I hope Vicki Kennedy doesn't get forced into running. I wonder if the same people who seem to think Mrs. Kennedy would make a good senator would feel the same way about Todd Palin ? Spouses should not run on their better half's names.

I guess a bunch of you guys don't believe Marty was born in the US. I know you think he's secretly got death panels planned for the student health center. And you think his constantly accepting state funding makes Marty somehow a Nazi, a Socialist, and a Communist all at the same time!? Then there is reality.
