Djou has adopted the National Republican Tea Party plan to help "small businesses" (i.e. businesses with a small number of owners with millions in profits, and certainly not "small" Mom & Pop outfits).

* reduce the tax rate, even though many of these "small businesses" are already shifting their money into tax shelters and taking advantage of loopholes to pay an effective 0% tax rate.

* use any excuse to eliminate the Jones Act, so we can outsource our shipping industry jobs to China. Remember the Gulf Oil Spill. Djou joined McCain in calling for repeal of the Jones Act because it was hampering response by foreign flagged vessels. Turns out the Deepwater Horizon site was so far offshore, that the Jones Act did not apply and did not affect aid from foreign countries. Djou - bad for American JOBS!

* Take money from large PACS like American Crossroads and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in an attempt to BUY votes this election. These groups not only accept major contributions from millionaires and big businesses, but also solicit donations from foreign based companies as well. This is WHY DJOU voted AGAINST closing tax loopholes for companies that ship jobs overseas on May 28th. This is also why Djou voted AGAINST the Disclose Act, which would have required the 'SPECIAL INTERESTS' which are funding his campaign to disclose their funding sources.

Gee Djou! How does it feel to sell out not only your State, but your country as well?

Yes, Hawaii! Show your stupidity by voting for a Republican Tea Party with a clear track record of putting Corporate interests firsts, and U.S. Citizens interests second!

What was one of Djou's first votes when he reached Congress, he voted NO to close tax loopholes that allow U.S. Corporations to ship U.S. jobs overseas! At a time when our State was reeling from furlough Fridays and low test scores, Djou votes against a measure that would've brought $40 million+ to help keep our teachers employed and help our schools. Instead of voting for Hawaii's interests, he sided with the National Republican Party Tea Party Anti-Obama interests. Djou gets an 'A'(90%) for voting the national party line for corporate special interests, but a FAILING GRADE of 'F'(10%) for voting for Hawaii's best interests.

Don't sell your vote next week to Big Corporate Special interests, faux astroturf movements, and Foreign governments. When you see the flashy expensive attack ads against Hanabusa (that often appropriate copyrighted material without permission), ask yourself, who exactly is American Crossroads and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce? Why can't you find out who their donors are? And why has the Republican Tea Party filibustered all attempts at transparency to compel groups like those to disclose their contributors?

DJOU 2010 - The best campaign, corporate special interest money and foreign donations can buy!

If anyone needs more evidence of how Republican Tea Party policies have failed our nation, do some research on personal income in this country. You will find that personal income for most of us actually declined during the Bush years. Sure, it's been great for the wealthy elitists now funding
the anti-Obama agenda, but for the rest of us - not so great. Anyone start to feel that trickle down bullshyte yet??? I thought not!

Just another reason, as if we needed one, not to send Djou back to Congress as Hawaii's Representative next year! Vote for Hanabusa, so she can help Obama get this economy rolling again for the middle class and poor people as well!

Hawaii. If you send Djou back to Congress, your gonna end up taking it up the okole from the corporate special interests.

Djou already voted to block the closure of tax loopholes that allow U.S. Corporations from shipping their jobs overseas.

During the Gulf oil crisis, Djou joined Arizona Senator McCain in calling for the repeal of the Jones Act, which protects American ports, shipbuilders, workers and jobs, despite the fact that the Deepwater Horizon site was far enough away from the American Coast to not be affected by the Jones Act! The Jones Act didn't interfere with foreign aid to the Gulf oil spill. The Jones Act interferes with plans by Djou's corporate sponsors to ship more American jobs overseas.

Djou voted against a bill that would've brought nearly $40 million to Hawaii to keep schools open and prevent teacher furloughs.

Djou supports tax breaks for the wealthy, while opposing Obama's plans to cut taxes for 99% of Hawaii's working families.

Djou also voted along with his Republican Tea Party colleagues against a disclosure bill that would've required Corporate PACS and Special Interests to disclose the source of their donations.

Djou 2010 - Protecting the Corporate interests, while screwing Hawaii's interests!

Check out Djou's record for yourself. If you do, and view his actual voting record of voting with corporate special interests. No distortions. Just a voting record of opposing transparency, blocking the outsourcing of jobs to China, and voting against money for Hawaii's schools.

There you go again pretending like you know what the fck you're talking about when in actuality you don't know nothin'. Sheeple.

THE JONES ACT is a vestige of the post-World War I years, when the vulnerability of U.S. shipping to German U-boats was still fresh in the public's mind. To maintain a "dependable" merchant fleet for the next "national emergency," Congress restricted coastal shipping between U.S. ports to U.S.-built vessels owned by U.S. citizens; related laws require U.S. crews. The Jones Act may or may not have achieved its original purpose, but shipping businesses and labor unions love the way it shields them from foreign competition.

Today the Jones Act stands accused of hindering the gulf oil spill cleanup. Republicans say that President Obama should have used his emergency power to waive the law -- as President George W. Bush did after Hurricane Katrina -- but hesitated to do so in deference to organized labor. The Obama administration denies it. "There has not been any problem with this," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said last week.

Who's right? The administration's critics exaggerate the Jones Act's impact on the cleanup. It applies within only a three-mile band of coastal water. Even if President Obama had immediately waived the law, it wouldn't have affected the skimming and scooping of most of the oil, which is floating dozens of miles offshore. The inapplicability of the Jones Act to the spill area helps explain why 15 foreign-flagged vessels have indeed been cleared to operate in the Gulf of Mexico.

That doesn't mean that the Jones Act is harmless. To the contrary, like other protectionist laws, it increases the price of goods and services to American consumers -- though how much is a matter of debate, because foreign vessels would still have to comply with other laws and regulations that add to their costs. The Jones Act was an issue in the May 22 House special election in Hawaii: Both Republican winner Charles Djou and one of his two Democratic opponents charged that it benefited a handful of ship lines and unions at the expense of ordinary Hawaiians. Mr. Djou is preparing a bill to exempt Hawaii. If FedEx can move cargo across the country in European-made Airbuses, why can't a boat built in, say, Canada, ship wheat from Los Angeles to Honolulu? The Jones Act lobby crushed the last attempt at reform back in the 1990s. May the next one meet with more success.

We can count on American Infidel, the paid conservaturd troll of the GOP, for his typical distortions and mindless rhetoric which have no basis in reality! It reminds us of why we shouldn't give the keys back to the GOP this fall.

Since the GOP, their propaganda machine Fox News, and spammers like 'American Infidel'(i.e. the American without religious faith) are bent on removing another protedction for workers and shipping more of our jobs to foreign nations, a brief review of why we have this Jones Act is important:

The Merchant Marine Act of 1920 (i.e. Jones Act) was passed in response to concerns about the health of the our countries Merchant Marine, and to establish protections for sailors. Prior to passage of this act, sailors who were injured on the job had few options for recovering damages or getting assistance. Two parts of the Jones Act are of particular historical importance. The first heavily promoted American built, owned, and staffed ships. This was accomplished by restricting shipping and passenger trade within the United States to American owned or American flagged ships, and stipulated that 75% of a ship's crew must consist of American citizens. In addition, the use of foreign parts and labor in ship construction and repair was also heavily restricted. This section of the Jones Act was intended to create a strong, well staffed Merchant Marine which could ably serve the United States during both peace and war.

The second important section of the Jones Act created benefits for sailors which are extremely far reaching. Any sailor who is injured at sea is entitled to maintenance and cure, meaning that the sailor's employer must pay him or her a daily stipend and provide medical care to treat the injury. In addition, sailors can also sue for damages if their injuries were caused by negligence on the part of the ship's owners or other crew members, or if they sailed on unseaworthy vessels. These damages include death benefits, in the event that a sailor is killed on the job.

So, by advocating for the repeal of the jones Act, the GOP wants to:
*end protection for American sailors.
*staff the ships serving our ports with foreign workers.
*eliminate the ability of a sailor to sue for damages or injury in cases where the employer (e.g. shipping company) can be proven negligent.
*weaken our Merchant Marine and ensure that we may not be able to depend on Foreign shipmakers in time of war.
*allow foreign built ships, some from unfirendly nations, access to our goods, services, and shores.

Might as well just open up all our ports to the Stans, Imams, Mexico, India, and the Phillipines then let them take the jobs, the rights and all the business away from American made companies like Matson Navigation. The idea that ships from enemy countries staffed with employees that hold no friendship to America are suddenly allowed access to our waters and shoreline, in the name of opening up market competition, doesn't exactly inspire any confidence in our national security. Kinda makes it easier for terrorists from unfriendly nations to attack our shores, doesn't it!
