These folks may have some legitimate reasons for anger, but what I see is mostly unbridled hatred for Obama, which some Republican politicians are irresponsibly whipping up for their own political advantage.

3 They are, like those KKK rallies, overtly RACIST as Anne said. I did not hear public displays of such racism against GW by anyone of importance, calling him a white redneck or paleface or whatever. But we sure are hearing this crap about Obama. Perhaps even more dangerous than the racism is the rightwing desire to be obstructionist to anything Obama tries to do. It's like the right has decided, even if we elect another FDR (which we essentially have done), they will not ALLOW the social programs to be put into place. Folks, this is a democracy. Obama was elected, as was EVERY member of Congress. If they then enact programs which pass muster as Constitutionally allowed by the Supreme Court, then if you OBSTRUCT their implementation you are TREASONOUS. These idiots who think that it is PATRIOTIC to stand up with ARMED RESISTANCE to liberal programs... are in fact advocating a fascist COUP! This is not a laughing matter. LIBERALS and MINORITIES... you better arm yourselves and learn how to shoot NOW. Learn some basic military or counter-insurgency tactics too. |

1 A much more apt word would be counterrevolutionary. The sentiments shown at these events are regressive, and should serve as a major embarrassment for rational, thinking Americans of any political persuasions. I am quite sure that people in other countries are laughing their heads off at the buffoonery. |

1 almost none of those posters are racist yet the article still makes a headline that doesn't fit the overwhelming majority of their 'proof'. Socialism isn't a race, it's a character flaw. |

2 Signs calling someone Hitler, or Mack Daddy, are highly insulting and are not about anything but raw hatred. "Mack Daddy" is certainly a racist stereotype about black men, and most of us who have responded so far have no trouble recognizing that fact. |

2 The racist ones are a very, very small minority. Both parties have their nuts. If this is the 'worst' Think Progress could come up with (and I'm sure they tried really, really hard to do so) they're pretty desperate. |

2 A reknowned socialist has recently asserted that Obama is not one of them. Furthermore, it's pretty ridiculous to call someone a commie, socialist, and facist, as if it were possible to be all 3. Calling someone Hitler or Hitler-like is highly insulting not only because he was one of the biggest villains in history, but also because it trivializes the nature of Hitler's crimes, which resulted in the deaths of millions of Jews, as well as mentally handicapped people, and Gypsies. I did not have to read Think Progress to find this out, this has been going on also at the town hall meetings. |

1 LOL, You forget that Politicos on both sides send their minions in by the busload and instruct them to be as outrageous as can be to discredit legitimate protesters. You don't think democrats do that? Think again.... Just last month, a democrat operative was caught vandalizing their own democratic headquarters in Colorado. Her was caught red-handed by accident. lol It is done to demonize the other side. I watched what looked like too me to be at least a million people there and the majority of signs I saw were lashing out at over spending into the Trillions of fiat dollars, while unemployment skyrockets! People are sick of politicians lying and trying to push thru an agendas that nobody really has read until recently. |

1 If you're being pedantic, then yes you're right. If you were being honest they're all a common theme of an overbearing, over-controlling state that ends up limiting freedom. That's the impression of where he wants to take the country so it fits in my opinion. In any case, that accusation has nothing to do with race. Not at all racist just like most other things these days. Any time opposition gets in a good shot or the left trips, out comes the race card to change the subject. I'm more than bored of it, I'm pissed off about it now. I used to be mello but people kept pushing and pushing. Racist this, racism that, blah, blah, blah. |

2 It's one thing to disagree with a president's policies, but another to irresponsibly fan flames of hatred. As I said in an earlier post, comparing him to Hitler trivializes the mass murders that occurred at his hands. At these events, hatred and demonizing are taking the place of rational and respectful disagreements. Furthermore, do you really think those Bozos care that Obama is half-white? That has not kept them from hurling insults like Mack Daddy and calling him an illegal Kenyan alien. These things are making America a laughingstock to other countries. It might be funny if it wasn't so embarrassing and so tragic. In any case, I hope and believe that a health care reform that benefits us all will pass, and that the cretins participating in this charade will be a laughable footnote in history. |

1 EVERY OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY, and they are overwhelmingly DEMOCRATIC, not fascist, not dictatorships... the GOP is LYING TO YOU!!! EU, Israel, NZ, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Canada...others in E Europe, and CUBA... The Republicans scream about Nazis and Communists, but we are talking about FRANCE and GERMANY here. Are those oppressive dictatorships? I don't think so. Is the UK? No. We are not hearing what the people in those countries really think about their healthcare systems. Let's put some Israelis on the TV talking about their healthcare system, or their labor union(s) for that matter. The conservatives are really proving to be obstructionist traitors on this and generally with the Obama Administration. |

2 You are a good one to talk about being honest. I don't care if you are pissed off, because even though I realize that the word is overused, there are times when it is apt. And, yes, racists come in all colors. While it's true that Democrats also demonize opponents, Republicans are by far worse. Did you have anything to say during the 8 years when Bush-Cheney crapped on the Constitution and lied us into the Iraq War? I stand by what I said in stating that some of the opposition to Obama is racist, and I will not take back any of it. Even though people use the word too casually, there is no use denying its existence when it rears its ugly head. And there is no doubt that some of this vitriol is the result of racism. |
