While Environmental groups lobby to add millions of acres of public land to wilderness designation each year, this closed to the public status also means closed to healthy forest thinning.
Over the decades managed forestry thinning was responsible for beetle and wildfire mitigation. A overgrown forest is not healthy and suspect to beetle kill, and a dead forest is a wildfire waiting for the first lighting strike.
The recent increase in off limits public lands are directly responsible for both beetle kill and the adverse affects it brings.
No need for additional Federal spending, just Dept of Interior to do the job they are being paid to do.
