I disagree entirely. Rushing to change the laws against something just because of the volume of lawbreakers is NOT ever going to be a viable solution for a country that wishes to long maintain its reputation of being a country ruled by law.

The Republicans lost "big" in the last election because they no longer were Republicans. They had abandoned every single principle that made them Republicans and had become just another Democrat Party masquerading under a different name.

Democrats recovered against what all thought were insurmountable odds by going to their far left contingent rather than playing "centrist". Republicans might ought to consider the same strategy by returning to their far right contingent in many respects so at least we have some real definition between the two parties.

I maintain Hispanics went with the side that promised the most "free stuff" to them. The side that promised big checks whether you paid income tax or not. Blacks and other minorities eat this stuff up and Obama promised almost daily to reward them with handouts. It won't be long, mark my words, that Obama's economic plan will find a way to exempt even the Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid deductions from his minority voter base and increase all those deductions on the higher wage earners who already pay most of the income taxes collected by the Federal Government. He knows that few of the higher wage earners are going to be voting for him anyway so he has no fear of antagonizing them further.

Ameerica will be a socialist state with a totalitarian leader with a federal police force by 2010

The voters wanted a government who will take care of them ... and it will.

I think you are exagerating the impact of GOP proposed immigration reform had on Hispanic voters. Many Hispanics favor immigration reform.

That doesn't explain why these same voters went for Bush in previous races.

From the Naples News. June 19, 2007, quoting the local sheriff. About 22 percent of all crime in Collier County is attributed to illegal immigrants, Hunter said. Also, 40 percent of all felony warrants and 60 percent of murder arrest warrants in the county are for illegal immigrants, he said. Immigration reform that the sentinel refers to does nothing to address this problem. The Sentinel, it appears, does not want our laws enforced.

If the Hispanics don't want to enforce our laws may I suggest that maybe this country has become a colony. A colony is made up of people from one country owing allegiance to their home country, not the country that they're in. And a colony serves the purpose of supporting the home country and exploits the new land. And has this happened to the United States? Have people illegally or legally entered the United States with the
purpose of colonizing this country for the benefit of another nation? Vicente Fox, actually encouraged illegal entry of his citizens into the United States. His government provided maps and documents so that people could enter illegally into this land. At the border of Texas and Mexico on the Mexican side, you can find numerous markets where an
individual can buy documents of identification that are sold so that people can use them when they come into the United States to pretend to be here legally. Now we have the Sentinel wishing to give Vicente Fox a helping hand.

I know people who conveniently went to Miami 3 times to have their children. The children are American citizens, live in a foreign country, speak English only when forced to, and refer to Americans as Gringos. That has been going on for decades. But is it right? Fred Thompson may have cost the Republicans votes by his proposal, but at lease he wasn't promising blue passports as a way to buy votes. Give him some credit.

Whites are still 70% of the voters ... so it is folly to look at other groups to either blame or regard ... and hispanics are much more diverse in voting than blacks anyway.

Had the GOP stood up against illegal immigration, promised a secure border and deportation of all illegals in this country, they would have won by a landslide!!!

This is just another example of the Slantinal attempting to manipulate the readers!!!

There is a great need for moderation with this issue. There are not enough resources to find and deport 11 million illegals. By the time that was completed there would be 15 million new ones.
Illegals who commit crimes should be instantly deported. Border security should be increased and methods to become legal should be instituted. All or nothing serves no one.

The anti-immigration crowd has been losing elections for a few years now.

Hazelton, PA Mayor Lou Barletta lost to an unknown. Democrats gained seats in the southwest. I don't see where the anti-immigration crowd has had much success.

What a bunch of hogwash.

I am Hispanic and I believe that immigration is out of control. Our borders are as leaky as the Titanic.

I will vote against politicians who support amnesty, drivers licences, welfare benefits, or anything similar for ILLEGALS.

This is really funny. You're one of those people who was holed up in his house with multiple guns and canned goods, on Jan 31st 1999, waiting for the world to end, arn't you? Believe it or not America has survived many Presidential elections, and we will survive many more, with our Republic safely intact.
