Should Representative Ryes' amendment pass into law, we can forget about our intelligence people acquiring further information. Who in their right mind is going to expose themselves to prosecution from a vengeful government because they were trying to protect their country? This amendment exceeds "stupid" and crosses over into pro al Qaida as a direct attempt to help our enemy. I can believe neither that I at one time supported this guy or that I would ever support him again. My only thought now is that a vote for Representative is a vote in favor of al Qaida and terrorism.

I'm afraid that this pie in the sky, high ideal, law proposal has no basis in reality and will only help those who want to harm us.
Our intel people are not dealing with with your average catholic school students, rather hardened criminals who have little regard for human life.
Mr. Reyes please put the story book down and wake up to the reality we must face each day.

It was once said the dusty boots were a sign of experience from the ground up, years of service, etc.

The authors "extended family" benefitting by government contracts, recent rescue of kidnapping victims, all cloud the image of the who is being served.

The UNFINISHED BORDER FENCE IN THIS DISTRICT,
IS TESTIMONY TO THE PRIORITY OF NATIONAL DEFENSE AND PUBLIC SAFETY HELD BY THE AUTHOR OF THIS PROVISION.

IT FURTHER ENDANGERS THE US AND IT'S CITIZENS.
Would you not do anything to protect the US, your family?

You cannot apply our values to the bloodthirsty fanatics planning our demise, it's fighting under deadly restraint.

Dont shoot till shot at; think about that.
The political restraints we are burdened with!
If that were the law and case, politicians should be in the first wave.

These boots need further application!

VOTE to rid the region of these boots.
We need real security, real representation, a real leader.

Reyes needs to move to California. Texans like law enforcement folks, and the good Americans keeping us safe. A gutless man that waits until the 11th hour, because he can't face the oposition, should not represent this state! Hopefully, his job will belong to someone else next year. I believe that person will place Americans above the enemy.

I wish he would be as active in protecting the people who live close to the border where beheading is a way of life in Juarez.

Like why he can't do anything to stop the exodus from Juarez to el paso, but yet he's more concerned with al-Qaida being tortured.

Who the hell cares about al qaida? There's a war going on down here Reyes you and the Mayor wake up.

Why did you tell the people who came here from washington that everything is fine? Evrything is not fine.

Are you more for Mexico thsn the U.S.? Then go live in Mexico.

I thought you were a veteran. What are you doing to protect the border?

People should be shouting you down everyday, but I guess it's that lithium they put in el paso water that keeps them dumbed down, how fortunate for you and the Mayor.

An excerpt from John Yoo's piece in the Wall Street Journal a few days ago:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405274...

"[The military] cannot meet those challenges with clear minds if they believe that a bevy of prosecutors, congressional committees and media critics await them when they return from the battlefield.

This is no idle worry. In 2005, a Navy Seal team dropped into Afghanistan encountered goat herders who clearly intended to inform the Taliban of their whereabouts. The team leader ordered them released, against his better military judgment, because of his worries about the media and political attacks that would follow.

In less than an hour, more than 80 Taliban fighters attacked and killed all but one member of the Seal team and 16 Americans on a helicopter rescue mission. If a president cannot, or will not, protect the men and women who fight our nation's wars, they will follow the same risk-averse attitudes that invited the 9/11 attacks in the first place."

I dare ask, Mr. Reyes: How far would YOU want OUR military to go to extract information if the life of one of YOUR loved ones depended on it-if he were being tortured and at risk of decapitation in some dingy hellhole in Afghanistan? We all saw how far you personally went to help out a member of your extended family last year....How far would YOU go if Al-Qaeda plotted to set off a nuclear device in an easily accessible border community such as El Paso?

Will someone PLEASE step up to replace this clown?"

Legislation like this only serves to tie the hands of those protecting us and may one day cause detrimental delay in the retrieval of intel that could save American lives. Mr Reyes, you are truly disconnected from what is needed to combat today's threat, as well as the new rules of war that have been thrust upon us, not chosen by us.

Reyes is worried about terrorists rights while back home at the local VA center veterans have had scheduled appointments for treatment canceled, services reduced, a female employee attacked by a department head, poor employee morale and reductions in services to paralyzed veterans.

You know I like the guy and all but he is not taking care of business here in El Paso so I guess it's time to find another rep.

Oh I forgot. Given this legislation there is no need to take any prisoners. Just leave them dead on the battlefield.

What ever happend to a eye for a eye . How soon we forget the way the japs treated our men or the gooks or how about the way the muslims do our people let alone their own ! We should use any form of torture to keep us safe and to protect our people ! If they don't want us to use physical torture then feed them pork or cover them with pig blood . I myself can't see why they are still alive they should have saved us all a bunch of time money and headache by just killing them ! Why do we give non americans the same rights afforded to us as legal americans ? These people are the enemy do these dumba$$es in congress get it !

Congressman Reyes is a veteran of combat in Viet Nam. He was a gunner on a helicopter when most of you cowards were home sitting on your butts. America does not torture. You idiots would be happy lowering the standards of the U.S. to those of the Nazis or today's terrorists. Cong. Reyes is a hero.
