Rep. Peter King Says Next Hearing Will Focus on Radical Muslims in Prison
Washington (AP)- The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is pressing forward with his public examination of Muslim extremism in America, pointing to his first, tense hearing on the subject as a step toward desensitizing a taboo topic and rooting out terrorists on U.S. soil.
"There's an elephant in the room and nobody wants to talk about it. We talked about it today," King said after the four-hour, emotion-filled session Thursday.
Just holding the conversation, he said, advanced the fight against al-Qaida's efforts to recruit one-man terrorist cells from within American Muslim communities and to suppress any effort to report those activities to law enforcement officials. King next will turn to the issue of Muslim extremism in American prisons in hearings planned later this year.
"I remain convinced that these hearings must go forward -- and they will," King said as he opened Thursday's session.
But the conversation -- a government examination of one religion in the U.S.-- is fraught with distrust and political pandering that reflect the nation's ongoing struggle against terrorism nearly a decade after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The White House said America should not practice guilt by association. "We also believe that Muslim Americans are very much part of the solution here and not the problem," presidential spokesman Jay Carney said Thursday.
With photos of the burning World Trade Center and the Pentagon on display, Thursday's hearing opened with a defiant King condemning criticism from some Democrats, Muslim groups and the media as hysteria and political correctness. He did not release any new statistics on how many Muslims were helping root out terrorists or how many refused, or invite federal law enforcement officials to testify on the nature and extent of the threat he was examining.
Instead, the hearing featured testimony from the families of two young men who blame the Islamic community for recruiting them to terrorism. On the other side, one of the two Muslims in Congress wept while discussing a Muslim firefighter who died at the World Trade Center on 9/11.
Democrats said King should have focused the hearing on all groups that foster terrorism on American soil, including racists like the Ku Klux Klan and skinheads. To focus on just one group, Muslims, amounted to an abuse of power, discrimination and propaganda for al-Qaida, they said.
"Our words transcend this hearing room," said Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, the senior Democrat on the committee. "Acknowledgment of an obligation to be responsible does not equal political correctness."
"This committee's approach to this particular subject, I believe, is contrary to the best of American values and threatens our security -- or could, potentially," added Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim elected to Congress.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, challenged the assertion that some American Muslims resist cooperating with the search for terrorists in the U.S. by pointing to two witnesses who practice Islam.
"Muslims are here, cooperating. They are doing what this hearing has suggested that they do not do," she shouted. "Where are the uncooperative Muslims?
The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations recently put up a poster reading, "Build a wall of resistance. Don't talk to the FBI." The national group, CAIR, often has made itself the public face of the Muslim community when talking about fighting terrorism and has an extremely strained relationship with law enforcement. The Justice Department has linked CAIR to a terror financing case and the FBI will not work directly with its members.

"Democrats embarrass themselves at Islamic radicalization hearing
By Jennifer Rubin

The Islamic radicalization hearings were hotly anticipated. For those expecting a "witch hunt," the House Homeland Security Committee chairman, Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), was a disappointment. His opening statement was measured and included a staunch defense of the hearings.."

"Yes, but the hearings aren't targeting the entire community (as King repeatedly stressed) and, while all groups are "responsible" for fighting against radicals whose ideology Ellison can not name, the radicalization recruiters target Muslims. Other than that, he made perfect sense.

Ellison, of course, has a curious record of his own, as fellow Minnesotan Scott Johnson (who has kept an eye on Ellison for some time) of the Powerline blog reminded us:

Ellison's background includes his work as a local leader of the Nation of Islam in Minneapolis, an ally of convicted gangster Sharif Willis, an agitator on behalf of cop killers, a supporter of SLA terrorist Sara Jane Olson (the former Kathleen Soliah), and a mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood front group and unindicted Holy Land Foundation co-conspirator CAIR.

It was left to Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), a great friend of the Muslim community (and one of the most virulent anti-Israel members as well) to, in essence, tell his colleagues to put a cork in it. Sure, he made a self-referential comment that he always kept Joe McCarthy's picture on the wall as a reminder when he was chairman, but he then gave up the critical point: "There is a reason for us to go into this."

The witnesses, while predictably not all that enlightening, did put a human face on radicalization. Abdirizak Bihi, a Somali immigrant, described how his son was recruited and, as horrifying, how fellow Muslims went after him for co-operating with law enforcement. Perhaps most poignant was the father of the murderer who killed one and injured another at a Little Rock, Ark., military recruiting station. Melvin Bledsoe described how his son Carlos converted to Islam and then was radicalized by Islamic extremists. He told the committee that Yemeni extremists snared Carlos through their "counterparts" in Nashville. Soon, Carlos was off to a terror training school in Yemen and then put in Yemeni political prison, which was "the final stage of his radicalization." He said simply: "Something is wrong with the Muslim leadership in Nashville. What happened to Carlos at those Nashville mosques isn't normal."

But he, too, vouched for peaceful and law-abiding Muslims who are his friends and neighbors. He, like King, distinguished radicals from the whole Muslim community. Still, he was blunt that "political correctness" has prevented us from uncovering how Muslims are recruited. With the pain only a father can know, he implored the committee that "we are losing American babies. Our children are in danger."

Frankly, the Democrats embarrassed themselves. Ordinary Americans watching their temper tantrums would, I think, readily conclude that the hearings are appropriate and the Democrats' antics are not. King would now do well to assemble some panels of experts who can discuss the methodology of Islamic recruiters. Thursday, we learned a lot about the Democrats; now it is time to learn about the jihadists."

The fact that Muslims are complaining about investigating the rise of Islamic terrorism/radicalism in the US, only proves they're not fully invested in preventing and stopping it.

Which is shocking since Muslims are as much victims of Muslim terrorists as normal Americans are.

Defending this BS would be exhausting.

"Allah permits you to shut them in separate rooms and to beat them, but not severely. If they abstain, they have the right to food and clothing. Treat women well for they are like domestic animals and they possess nothing themselves. Allah has made the enjoyment of their bodies lawful in his Qur'an." Tabari IX:113

“Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood.” Koran 9:123
“When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them.” Koran 9:5
“Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable.” Koran 3:85
“The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them.” Koran 9:30
“Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam” Koran 5:33
“The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque.” Koran 9:28
“Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies.” Koran 22:19
“Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them.” Koran 47:4

“Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an.” Koran 8:12
“Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels.” Koran 8:60

Zakat is paid out in 8 equal parts with the 7th part sent to Islamic terrorists. That means that every Muslim have been supporting Islamic terrorism through their Zakat.

While it is true that not all terrorists have been Muslims every Muslim is a potential terrorist.

Well it is at least good to know the Muslims who regularly post here have nothing to say in this matter. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are as much against the growth of Islamic extremists in the US.

Let's hope their religious/cultist myopia doesn't prevent them from being loyal Americans.

I just love it. Another 'out of context' excuse.
But I always notice that they never put the vise 'in context'.

But IMHO, since the Quran is not in chronological order, the entire Quran is 'out of context'.

We have got to keep this information going. The Muslims are using a Trojan Horse attack against us by claiming they are a tolerant and loving religion.

They are not and we must continue showing Islam for what it is.

I wonder how muslims will explain how we can take the "go fight Jews and Christians because they are perverts" line out of context.

Muslims aren't really complaining against the investigation of terrorism, Trisha. They are complaining against the reckless branding of Muslims in general as terrorists. It's like saying that white people are all racists and KKK types. You're probably white. Therefore is it fair to assume that you go around lynching or attacking people of color?

If the hearings really ferret out terror without demonizing Muslims, I support them! Anyone attempting to harm America deserves to be shot.

"Muslims aren't really complaining against the investigation of terrorism"?
Right. They only complain when Muslims are investigated.

Obviously Muslims in general support terrorism by denial of Islam's involvement.

Your know, just like you have just done.

This kind of logic, applied to Mississippi, would accuse anyone of being a Klan supporter just because he or she is a white southerner. There are many varieties of Islam, just as of any religion. Indeed, we ought to be taking advantage of the quarrels among Muslims by helping the progressive ones to fight the extremist ones. A terrorist war that threatens America must be converted into a civil war that threatens jihad.

Remember Reagan's contras in Central America? Let's get together guerrila bands of women in Muslim countries who wish to fight male oppression, create women's contra groups, arm them and train them. Instead of "bomb-bomb-bomb, bomb-bomb Iran," we should start singing: "Shoot-shoot-shoot, shoot Taliban."

Do you have a reading disability or are you unable to comprehend the obvioyus?
Those who did not condemn the KKK and refused to condemn the KKK in fact supported the KKK.

Support can be by acts of commission or acts of omission.

If you had the mental capacity of a 12 year old you could understand that.

Obviously your a 'Good Muslim'.

You can always identify a Muslim.
They hate everything not Islamic.

But of course you think hate is good because hate is a basic part of Islam.

After all, we all know the Islam is the 'Religion of hate and intolerance'.
