Illegal Immigrants Who Commit Crimes Focus of Deportation

There are 26 comments on the www.nytimes.com story from Jan 8, 2012, titled Illegal Immigrants Who Commit Crimes Focus of Deportation. In it, www.nytimes.com reports that:

The federal agency in charge of deportations is conducting a far-reaching training course to push immigration enforcement officers and prosecutors nationwide to focus their efforts on removing immigrants convicted of crimes.

The training course is the clearest sign yet that administration officials want to transform the way immigration officers work, asking them to make nuanced decisions to speed deportations of high-risk offenders while halting those of illegal immigrants with clean records and strong ties to the country. The policy is President Obama’s most ambitious immigration initiative before the November elections, senior administration officials said.

This just guarantees more corruption. Any illegal caught should be deported. Saying we'll let certain illegals alone means if you pay the offical a big enough bribe, he'll let you stay.

It's ok to put criminal illegals on the top of the deportation list, but no captured illegal should be given a pass.

Obama and Holder say that until an invader rapes or kills you you can't complain or you are a racist!

The invaders should know that if they kill an American their welfare may be cut off. That should scare them!

If they kill an American, it should be an eye for and eye.

Illegals are not allowed to bear arms by the 2nd amendment, so any illegal who uses a weapon, should face the firing squad.

Illegals are not allowed to have a driver's license. Therefore, any illegal killing an American by driving drunk, firing squad.

Illegals are not allowed to be here. Any illegal killing an American; firing squad.

It seems very cut and dried to me.

Being here illegally is already a crime anything after that is crime #2.

Any new polices is only temporary. The way democrats are going, Obama will stay until 2016 but then the republicans will take the house, senate and WH because the economy, employment and housing won't get much better and the people will be sick of it.

All of Obama's policies will be rolled back.

Face it folks, he certainly can't run on his record. Then their is that pesky US citizen thing.

Father citizen of GB, mother not in country 5 years preceeding his birth (law at the time); Obama momma relinquished his American citizenship when she moved to Indonesia. It's on his passport and was he was never naturalized. I don't need to see his birth certificate. Dad's citizenship in Kenya, a territory of England, his mother not meeting requirements to bestow American citizenship, and the renouncing it with passport, a legal document says it all.

btw what does that make Sasha and Malia?

You got that right!

Any illegal working here is committing more crime. Unless they come here independently wealthy, every illegal who does not come here independently wealthy has committed more than one crime. It's ridiculous and they should ALL be deported. I don't care where they come from, what they look like, who they are, or how many "ties" they have, they go back. They can take their "ties" with them.

No they did not. Unlawful presence is a civil violation. That places it into the same legal classification as a traffic ticket. It is not a crime.

A traffic ticket is a crime (it's a traffic violation), just not heard in criminal court but instead heard in traffic court. It is not, however, a civil infraction.

Unlawful presence only applies to those who have overstayed their visa -- 1/4 to 1/3 of the illegals...and I've already provided you with proof of those numbers.

Anyone who walked over our borders without the proper paperwork has committed a misdemeanor. Their illegal presence does NOT take away the crime (misdemeanor) they committed by coming here without the proper paperwork. A civil offense does not negate a criminal act.

Anyone who came here illegally did not do so independently wealthy.

If they work without authorization, they are committing a crime.

If they work cash under the table, they are committing a crime.

If they fail to pay taxes on any money earned, they are committing a crime.

If they use a social security number that is not theirs they are committing not just a crime, but a FELONY crime (the most serious of crimes).

So how you (or anyone else) can run around saying they haven't committed crimes or they only committed the crime of coming here illegally is ridiculous.

Illegals are parasites upon our country and our legal citizens.

It is just plain wrong to reward those that have invaded our country with what they have tried to illegally obtain. Yes they are demanding US citizenship.

If one of us were to rob a bank or break into someones home and stole something would we be allowed to keep what we stole as a reward. NO.

Deport ALL illegals and those that have committed crimes, execute them.

Nah, illegal entry is a misdemeanor, the same severity as shoplifting under a certain dollar amount in most states. It most certainly is a crime - a federal crime.

However, once an illegal doesn't show up for his scheduled deportation hearing, defies a deportation order, or makes illegal entry after being deported once, he is classified as a fugitive felon.

Oh that explains it. I thought you were bullshitting, but as it turns out you just have no idea what you are talking about. A civil offense and a criminal offense are much different things.

By the way you should be glad that unlawful presence is a civil offense. If it was a criminal offense there would be a whole lot more legal protections involved. These would include the right to an attorney that the taxpayers usually have to pay for and a guaranteed day in court.

Since unlawful presence is a civil offense it is much easier to deport people. Many people are deported within a single day now. If your wish came true this would be impossible.

It is a good thing that there are smarter people who can look out for you.

And deportation is not a punishment, it just removes a person who does not have a right to be here.
