Republican push on immigration makes an enemy: farmers

Jul 31, 2011 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Bend Bulletin

Farmers across the country are rallying to fight a Republican-sponsored bill that would force them and all other employers to verify the legal immigration status of their workers, a move some of them say could imperil not only future harvests but also the agricultural community's traditional support for conservative candidates.

Like most Americans, I regularly disregard stupid laws. We have so many laws on the books that it's almost impossible for anyone to go through a day without breaking at least one of them.
We are over regulated and over lawyered, which causes disrespect for the law in general and stupid laws in particular.
Hence, I'll jaywalk and speed and spit on the sidewalk if I feel the need. I've even enjoyed FELLATIO and SODOMY (omg, hide the women and children!)- both are still on the books as "crimes" in many states.
And while I don't "break" the immigration laws, I freely skirt around them (because it's so easy to do, and I'm within my rights to do so).

And both are ways to buy votes for the Democratic party.
Umm, no.

Farm subsidies are a REPUBLICAN WELFARE PROGRAM. Republicans fight to keep farm subsidy welfare money flowing.

I know a lot of you are brainwashed into thinking only Democrats buy votes with give aways, but it's just not true, both major parties doe it.

Both parties love big government, both parties love to was OUR money. The only difference is what they like to waste the money on- Dems love to waste money on social programs, Republicans love to waste money on farm subsidies, corporate subsidies, and military misadventures.

Until people realize that BOTH parties piss our money away, we will never have a fiscally responsible government.

I was a Republican most of my life, I've never been a Democrat (currently a Libertarian). The prime reason I left the Republican party was because they waste our money. The first 6 years of the Bush administration being such a clear cut example that no one with intelligence could claim the Republicans are "fiscally responsible."

It's got nothing to do with "liberal."

It's about avoiding stupid laws.

I didn't "obey" Dianne Feinstein's assault weapons ban, either- it was bad law that was easily skirted.

Would you say it was "liberal" of my to buy an "assault weapon"?

Of course not (unless you are an idiot).

I just take great pleasure in taking advantage of loopholes in STUPID laws, regardless of which party passes the stupid law.

"libertarian4321",Ar e all "libertarians" like you?

What is libertarianism?

Libertarianism is, as the name implies, the belief in liberty.
Libertarians strive for a free, peaceful, abundant world where each
individual has the maximum opportunity to pursue his or her dreams and
to realize his full potential.

The core idea is simply stated, but profound and far-reaching in its
implications. Libertarians believe that each person owns his own life
and property, and has the right to make his own choices as to how he
lives his life as long as he simply respects the same right of others
to do the same.

Another way of saying this is that libertarians believe you should be
free to do as you choose with your own life and property, as long as you
don't harm the person and property of others.

Libertarianism is thus the combination of liberty (the freedom to live
your life in any peaceful way you choose), responsibility (the
prohibition against the use of force against others, except in defense),
and tolerance (honoring and respecting the peaceful choices of others).

Liberty is one of the central lessons of world history. Virtually all
the progress the human race has enjoyed during the past few centuries is
due to the increasing acceptance of free markets, civil liberties, and
self-ownership.

Our goal as libertarians is to bring liberty to the world, so that
these wonderful and proven ideas can be put into action. This will make
our world a far better place for all people.

We hope you will join us in embracing this ideal and in taking a
stand to personally bring about a world of liberty, abundance and peace.

Farmers cannot afford to alienate any Americans. We subsidize their very being. The have to take what they get, and if that is no illegal aliens, so be it!!

You will find that we libertarians tend to rebel against government stupidity in general, as well as bad laws.

I support the right of citizens to hire anyone they want. I also support the right of Mexican citizens to enter into willing contracts.

Hence, if a Mexican citizen is willing to do work for a given price, and I'm willing to pay that price, we, as free men, should be able to make that agreement without the interference of government bureaucrats.

There are not enough Libertarians to elect anyone so we don't give them much credibility. I know. Every once in awhile they put up a candidate, but they don't get very far. They usually end up running the next time on one of the 2 major political parties.

If the farmers can't use the ag guest worker programs, then well they get what they deserve. They just want to exploit the system and workers.

Here's the problem with your "logic": If the Mexican is in this country legally, that is fine and dandy.

If the Mexican is here ILLEGALLY, having violated the laws of this nation, then when you hire said ILLEGAL, you become part of the problem too. Then you too are operating ILLEGALLY and are making unenforceable business contracts. Those Mexicans you choose to hire have no recourse under the standard laws of business nor under National Labor Relations or State Employmee-Employer Resolution Programs.

You just described what is known as "classical liberalism." Almost the same as conservatism today.

What's missing is the acknowledgement of realism: dimocrats and liberals exist. Although a sad thing to admit, it means that once governmental benevolence is shut off, the whining and riots (depending on whether you're standing in Aspen or Detroit) commence to an earsplitting roar.

I could go along with the tenet of legalizing drugs, as long as we also fully followed correctional law and shut off welfare. Since neither will occur, I can't agree with legalizing drugs. The argument for the Libertarian position assumes a well behaved and educated populace. This assumption has unintended consequences.

It is against my liberty and my pursuit of happiness to provide welfare for lazy people who refuse to work or drug addicts who can't control their addiction.

Continually handing people money who have done nothing to earn it; just encourages more of it.
