Religion Immutable, Homosexuality Not: Boehner

Full story: snafu-ed.blogspot.com

Last week, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) objected to House passage of a bill that would expand hate crime laws to cover sexual orientation. His reason, apparently, is that homosexuality is a choice. At the same time, Boehner feels that religion is immutable. In other words, your religion is set from birth.

I'm a Christian, and I respect Boehner's faith. But it's kind of a ridiculous position.

My hunch is he doesn't have any gay kids or siblings. If so, he'd know that being gay is in no way, shape, or form a "choice".(Nor is it anti-Christian, but that's another story)

the state run media is putting any kind of crap into print or on air that will keep Obamas failures and the Health Care bill out of the public eye.

If Religion is immutable.... why do Christians try so hard to convert others?

I can't believe people like this are even concidered worthy of being a leader in this Nation. Do they even think about what they are saying before they say it? or do they just like to use "big n fancy" words to impress people?

Now we know homophobes are retrogade bigots, but this latest gem is just nutcaseville.

Congratulations, erectile sounding Boehner. It's just not easy to make that little sense, and people who can tend to earn big money writing for Saturday Night Live or The Daily Show.

If religion is immutable, as the erectile sounding gentleman, Beohner, would have it, then I guess the talibangelical xstains will stop trying to evangelize people. After all, it's inborn, right?

You'd have to walk pretty far to find a homophobe as clueless as this cretin. Maybe all the way to the next Republikkkan Congressman's office....

This is an opinion piece and someone's interpretation?

There certainly have been crimes against gays.

But maybe this is a bill that opens the door to other things.

Get your kids out of public schools and only vote for candidates that support parental school choice, vouchers. Get your kids OUT of public schools. In urban settings they are not the place you want your kids to attend. Obama put his kids in a charter school in Illinios and in private school in DC (while HE took away vouchers for area students!!!)....It's not okay for Obama's kids, but okay for other people's kids to attend crap schools.

If Boehner really believes religion is immutable, he very unintelligent.

If Boehner was correct, religious conversion would be impossible, atheism too would be immutable, and it's impossible to be agnostic or have doubts of faith.

At best, John Boehner is a partisan political hack, and a dim witted one at that. It worst, he is profoundly stupid, probably a lost cause.

religion no matter the religion are all man made things. most were made in early days because man couldnt understand how things worked so we needed a great all powerful deity to credit. now we have science that has proven how things work we no longer need religion. some still do because they have weak minds like mr. boehner. or more to the point if republicans didnt have the religion vote all they would have left is the warmonger vote and racist kkk vote.

It's amazing how such crushingly stupid people get elected to public office in this country. This bonehead makes Michelle Bachmann seem intelligent - well, almost.

After many years, and numerous studies there is no consensus that people are born Gay. It is totally abnormal behavior, and you can stop being a victim. You made choices, the same as anyone else. It will be ignored, but it will never be acceptable behavior.
