You know, I find some of your comments about Arlen Specter passing appalling. Whether you liked him or agreed with some of his politics, he had at least the ya-yas to take on his own party when he disagreed. There are very few in congress today (if any) that will do this. There was a time when there was sincere debate and negotiation and compromise was struct for the people. You need all remember the signifigance of the two-party system and how it should be operating. If you have one party signing a pledge--well, that should tell you how far we have fallen. It is a cowardly act not to face the opposing party and hold discussion and debate. At the end of the day, you respect each other. You guys don't get that, obviously.
Specter was only interested in advancing..... Specter. He was despised by the Democrats when he became a Republican for political gain and he was despised by the Republicans when he returned to the Democratic party for.....wait for it....political gain. He played both ends against the middle, all in the name of building the Specter name/brand politically. Who he represwented is insignificant. He would have moved to a neighboring State to run for office if necessary to win/retain power. He was that kind of sh1theel.

I do know that he began his career as a Dem., and I also know he ruffled lots of feathers during his "hay day". However, he wasn't afraid to vote for what he thought was right even though it was against his party. I was ticked at a few of his decisions but I can respect someone that is able to think for themselves. Had he gone along with the party all the time, he would not have lost his seat. Opposition is not always a bad thing when it forces discussion and/or compromise. That is the best way to make our government effective.

Not sure what that's supposed to mean? Is that why Rep. signed a pledge?? It really is sad that we don't have a functioning congress. They all seem to be afraid to voice an opinion about anything, or discuss anything. Maybe a few of them could be laid off until the economy recovers.
